Ivan makes landfall in Alabama 1:30 a.m. EST

Post by kostby »

Ivan made landfall midway between Pascagoula AL and Mobile Bay AL about 1:30 a.m. EST.Here's a live link to Mobile AL tide and wind sensors tracking the storm as it makes landfall:http://www.latimes.com/news/na...rlinkIf the above link doesn't work, try this one:http://www.fema.gov/media/hlt/u0_i54_mob.gifThe max storm surge I observed was about 13 feet in Mobile. Max wind speeds still apparently 115 mph. Eye of the storm now headed north-northeast.

We're supposed to get more rain up here from this than Alabama will...kind of hard to believe. http://www.fema.gov/media/hlt/....jpeg

I'm starting to wonder what happens when you hit the end of the alphabet. My weather enthusiast friend says the furthest they've ever gotten before is "P." We only need 6 more to tie that.

We only need 6 more to tie that.Well, september tends to be the peak of the season...for us to get 6 more storms before the end of hurrican season (nov 30) isn't very probable...impossible, absolutely not. Probable, ehhhh.....As to what happens if you hit the end of the list...well, my guess would be they would start on the next list...there are six lists which are cycled through...this year's list of names will be reused in 2010...BUT...26 named storms? That'll be a tough feat to accomplish...
