murder close to home...

Post by Mavrik »

A body was found in a field about a block from my work yesterday, police haven't released much info but when I drove a car on a road test I went past the site, cops are out there combing the area looking for clues, apparently according to the morning news the body is in pretty bad shape to make an identification. Woodstock is a small town with like 35,000 ppl, kinda rare for this sort of thing other then a baby sitter killing a child and a neglectant wellfare drug addict couple being careless with their child and it died all within the last year.I'm keeping my ear to the news cause this is interesting.

well, where i live, it's very rare to have that happen as well. however the last 2 years we had 3 high profile murders in our little town! one was a kid that went crazy and hacked up one guy and tried to kill the girlfriend because she wouldn't date him. she managed to escape and ran next door to a cop's house. that was a house on the next street over. i can see it from my back window. my mom heard her scream when it happened. then another was a high profile "super cop" was shot in his house by his ex lover whom he'd been cheating on his wife with. he and his wife reconciled and he called it off. she didn't take it well and was stalking him. ended up breaking into their house and hid in their closet. when they got home, he went to put his coat away and she shot him. then went upstairs and shot the wife 3 times. she survived amazingly enough, but not without a lot of damage! i am friends with their youngest son's wife, deborah. i used to work with her and she was my photographer at my first wedding.the other was a pilot who shot his wife and then himself after she announced she wanted a divorce. she had an affair and was leaving him for the other man. unfortunately, their youngest son is my good friend, and so it was very sad to see how that ripped apart their family. so really, the moral of the stories are be careful who you date and don't cheat on your spouse! you never know what's hiding in your closet! literally!

haha what about that serial killer who was taking hookers out into the forest and hunting them?but yeah this body has been only a few hundred feet off a main road I drive on quite a lot for quite some time. Some kids found it yesterday when they were playing in the field. rather creepy.

I stopped watching the local news. Once I watched the local TV station and they mentioned there was a body found a block from where I live. It was on a street that I had pegged to be pretty safe. It creeped me out. I decided it would be better for me not to know about the numerous stabbings around my neighbourhood. I guess it's harder to avoid that in a smaller town when that's all anyone would want to talk about.

well Toronto is not high on the crime scale but probably has a lot more going on there then here in Woodstock. But I watched City TV 11pm news last night, apparently the body is so badly decomposed, its pretty much just bones.

Remains identified as missing womanBy Deirdre Healey - Staff WriterWOODSTOCK - Police have confirmed the human skeletal remains found in a wooded lot outside Woodstock last week are those of Nadine Curtis. The news has put an end to the Curtis family’s four-year search for the missing 48-year-old Woodstock woman.“It’s a roller coaster ride right now,” said Marj Curtis, Nadine’s sister-in-law. “We are thankful she was found, but it’s not the way we wanted her to be found. She had been missing four years, five months and one day.”The skeletal remains were sent away Sept. 15 to Sudbury by Oxford Community Police Service to be studied by a forensic anthropologist.“As soon as we found out the remains were identified as Nadine Curtis, we notified the immediate family and they are notifying the rest of the family,” Const. Bob McDonald said. “We would like to express our sincere condolences to the Curtis family on their loss of Nadine.”OCPS and the forensic anthropologist are continuing the investigation in hopes of determining how Nadine died.“Determining the cause of death is complicated because of the length of time the body was there and the condition of the remains,” McDonald said. “At this time, there is no indication of anything suspicious about her disappearance.”However, Marj and the rest of the Curtis family are already prepared to accept the fact that their questions may never get answered.“The police are doing as much as they can. But the truth is, we may never know what happened,” McDonald said.Nadine Curtis went missing April 12 2000.She was last seen by a neighbour leaving her Chapel Street home at 2 p.m. with only a black purse under her arm.Her older brother Reed Curtis, said Nadine suffered from depression for most of her adult life. The Curtis family held several search parties and hired a private investigator and a psychic to help find Nadine. The family spent months searching along all the railroad tracks in the county because Nadine liked to walk along the tracks and even searched the area where the remains were found four years later.Nadine’s remains were discovered on Sept. 13 by two teenagers who were walking in the block of forest. The teenagers notified police and officers spent the next three days combing the area for more evidence and photographing the scene.Marj said the family will be holding a memorial service for Nadine as soon as her remains are returned to them.“We want to celebrate her life,” she said. “We are trying to concentrate on the happy memories right now and move forward.”

so why is it when someone dies, the first thing people think about is money?
