So I'm talkin to my friend today and he said that his mom has the same car I do, I was like, that's coo. But then he said somethin that was weird. He said that our tranny's are horrible. Not reliable. I was surprised especially when he said that his mom went through 4 tranny's already. I told em, I said, either she got a lemon or she doesn't know to drive it. Does anyone seem to have this problem with their cars?Inder Singh

If I had gone thru 4 trannys, I would have raised hell at the dealership and gone all the way to contacting Pontiacs corporate office if that happened. I had a ford taurus with 250,000+ miles on it and it had had 2 trannys and the second rebuilt once before i sold it.... That was a horrible tranny design... but 4 in the course of 3 years (since the first vibe rolled out) is crazy!!!
2006 MazdaSpeed6 GT which is for sale if anyone is interested...
at the dealership I work at, out of the couple dozen Vibes we service in a month, we have replaced one tranny on one of them since their release in 02. A gearing went causing a grinding noise, it was a manual transmission to.

Yeah but the car being a lemon sounds true but 4 lemon transmissions? what sort of tires are on the Vibe and what miles and reason the transmission has been replaced 4 times?Continental tires make a noise that sounds like a bad transmission...

even the dumbest person knows how to put a car in drive and hit the gas, how would someone who didn't know how to drive manage to wreck a auto transmission? it was designed that way so anyone could drive it.

Fords suck! :thumbdown My 91 escort auto had 168k on the original tranny and still going strong when it got stolen.I had a 74 mustang with a manual...replaced at 289k because i dumped the clutch at 5500. Also had to replace the rear end when i did that because it broke the spider gears.
my father did a couple of auto trannies in... it's easy. just step on it when in reverse and shift back to Drive while the car is still moving... that tranny will creak until it croaks from what i've heard, the corolla auto tranny is considered reliable and quite decent for a 4 speed.

Does your friend drive his moms car and drop it in to gear with the rpms up for those racing starts?

If an auto trans on all makes and manf, a lot of times the mechanics do not flush the trans cooler. Not sure what the reason they are not (no way to do it?) but the cooler gets over looked and usually cannot be replaced unless it is bad. Metal from the bad tranny gets stuck in the cooler and when it cools down, bonds to the inside of the cooler. Once the cooler is heated again, it releases the metal, thus causing another failure. Rest easy though, we sold GM a trans cooler flusher machine, one per dealer and now every trans cooler will be flushed when the first trans fails. GM loved the warranty dollars it will save and cut down on repeats by a lot.
