i am just wondering if anyone else has had this problem...i turn on my vibe (03/just under 30k miles and only had it for 15 months ) and it seems fine...then a fuse blows and my gauges are absolete...no a/c...no power windows, and my check engine light comes on.the first time it happened...the dealer just said it was the fuse.that was 3 weeks ago...yesterday it happened again, but i put a new fuse in it, except now the check engine light is still on.it is really aggrevating. i am afraid it is an electrical problem.also...i have wind noise with the drivers side window and a floppy compartment below the cd player...the dealer supposedly fixed it, but it still flops. i am very dissappointed.
You should be able to take it back to the dealer and make them determine the real cause of the fuses blowing and they should fix it. SInce you are coming up on the end of warranty soon, you need to get it in there before that happens.Same with the wind noise and the compartment, that's what warranties are for. Still, they make it a hassle to go in for factory warranty service, and you have to give up the car while they work on it, which can be pretty inconvenient.
Take it to the dealer and it maybe a relay issue that is now causing a fuse to blow. Either way, it should not be doing that. The window and compartment issue has been documented since you took it in for that, bring it up again too.
okay...so dealer says that they cannot find anything wrong with it, so they put a higher fuse in to see if that will fix it.i am thinking an extended warranty may be a good idea.
wow. i've not had any probs like that whatsoever on mine. but if you get an extended warranty, just make sure it covers what you need it to. most of them won't cover things like the fuses, plus then there's a deductable. also, keep in mind, that extended warranty prices are negotiable! they are greatly marked up since the finance manager who sells it to you gets a nice profit from it.
Do not like that dlr fix... That link of the car calls for a certain sized fuse and the dlr just replaces it with a higher value. Major no, no... Not to scare you but the fuses job is to blow BEFORE a component and if the fuse value is higher, guess what can blow instead, the component. Probably since the car is not giving symptions when it came in, they could not find anything wrong with it. Elec issues take time to figure out. Oh well, see how it goes and get the ext. warranty if need be.
Also make sure the Dealer will be responsible if the wiring after that fuse happens to melt if it shorts again. Like MiVibe says...wiring is rated at certain current draws..

Yow! I can't believe that they would put a fuse of higher amperage in there... So, when something on the circuit malfunctions, the higher rated fuse will allow current to keep flowing beyond the point which it should. You could end up with damage on some component on the circuit, or worse - an electrical fire... Not good... They really should try to find and correct the problem.

have you done any type of electrical mods to the car??, and when the fuse blows, did you do anything, step on the brake?, shift into reverse?? (auto). anything.... try to think, reason i ask we had a solara in the shop, where the battery would go dead and the customer was replacing the gauge fuse...come to find out, they put a back up beeper on and used SAFETY PINS to make the connection and the wires came out of the beeper rubbing on the body (ground), thus popping the fuse and the alt. never charged the battery.

The rated fuse blows for a reason, and putting a higher amp fuse in there hides the problem. You may have problems with that circuit in the future, but since your warranty is almost up, they will be your problem, and not the dealer's They should either fix the problem so that the factory rating fuse does not blow, or give you a written statement that when the wiring problem gets worse and causes real trouble they will fix it for free. You brought it in while still under warranty, don't let them buy you off with just a bigger fuse.
