What it is exactly ? (near windshield rear view mirror)

I just got my new Vibe 2005 (less than 2 weeks ago), I noticed two wires in front of my rear view mirror, what is the purpose of that (anything to do, with my remote door entry system).Also, what is exactly the purpose of the big rectancle of very small black dots, just behind the rear view mirror (on the windshield, I means).

When I got my windshield replaced, Speedy AutoGlass confirmed that the black dots are to block out the sun around the mirror, where the visors can't reach. Not that they work all that great, but that is the design intent.

Yes I've noticed the sun visors do not contour to the rear view mirror.They should have a curved shape reaching out further to block moreof the sun, and the dots wouldn't be necessary. Looks like they could have done better here. Sun glare is very important concern. Peoplecan be run over by this oversight. Be vigilant!Bill

Just give it a tug and it will slide over so far you won't even be able to use the rear view mirror.
