GM pulls Corvette ad featuring underage driver

Post by kostby »

GM pulls Corvette ad featuring underage driver DETROIT (AP) — General Motors (GM) said Wednesday that because of complaints it pulled a Corvette television ad that shows a young boy driving wildly through city streets. Auto safety groups sent a letter Tuesday to GM chairman and chief executive Rick Wagoner protesting the ad, saying it sends a dangerous message. GM spokesman Joe Jacuzzi says the automaker pulled the ad for its 2005 Corvette Tuesday in response to that letter and other consumer feedback. The ad had been running during the Olympics. The ad, titled "A Boy's Dream," features a dream sequence in which a clearly underage boy is shown behind the wheel of the Corvette, attempting unrealistic maneuvers at high speeds. Judith Stone, president of Advocates for Highway Auto Safety and one of the signatories of the letter to Wagoner, welcomed GM's decision to stop running the ad. "We're delighted that they did the right thing," she said. Jacuzzi said the ad never was intended to depict a real-life situation.

Joe Jacuzzi sure sounds like a made up name, something you call someone who is always bragging about their whirlpool/hot tub thing.like "Look out, here comes Joe Jacuzzi. Wonder how long he is going to talk at us about water pH levels again today."

LOL, I was thinking that it was a made up name too! I'm thinking to myself--"that can't be someone's real name".I like how he says that the ad was never meant to depict a real-life situation. Well DUH!!! But this is now the land were common sense no longer exists and nobody is responsible for their own actions. Good to see that big corporations have to do all the thinking for the rest of the population now, too. Wouldn't it just have made more sense if he would have said, "If you're the parent of a 7 year old, how about not giving them the keys to your new 'Vette"? My Lord, the insanity that goes on anymore.

I am so glad that they pulled this add! I cannot imagine how bad traffic would get on the morning commute after every 7 year old bought a Vette and launched it through the air every morning! It would be chaos! Its great that there are people out there willing to fight for some causes, but there are also a lot of people who really need to get a clue.

There is so much that needs to be done in the world and these idiots waste everyone's time and resources with their petty nonsense. I'm glad to see that someone else also saw the stupidity in this.
