This afternoon, to my dismay, I find that my map lights are totally dead, but everything else seems to work. I tried different bulbs, no go. EVERY other item seem to work normally, and I did not see anything about there being a fuse for just the reading lights.. Any thoughts?
That's a bit odd! You're right, I certainly haven't seen any single fuse for the map lights either. If it was a bad fuse, I'm guessing it would be the 'DOME' fuse in the underhood electrical center. But, if that was bad, you would have a number of things not working. With the way they put numerous electrical devices on a single circuit, if you had a bad fuse I'm sure you'd know it right away.Do you have the mirror-mounted map lights? Only thing I can think of would be to check the wiring going to the mirror. It really sounds like a power wire is broken or disconnected somewhere, or possibly a bad ground...

I have the mirror mounted lights, but Im hoping its not wiring, the car has just over 1200 miles on it.I also noticed that several fuses seem to do the same thing, at least according to the manual... A wiring diagram that shows where the wires from the lights go once they get up in the ceiling would be nice...
If it's only got 1200 miles on it, i'd dare say to bring it to the dealer. I think the power for the maplights goes up the driver side A-pillar, and straight across the front of the headliner, then to the mirror. Not sure where it comes from in the dash. Now, if you change out the bulbs, do they come back? If you change a fuse, do they come back? Or do they die and stay dead?

Im not sure wht fuse I would need to change, as the dome fuse is not broken, and I have changed bulbs to no avail.. could something else have shorted out in there, like the light unit perhaps?
Without some sort of multimeter to test the stuff..it's hard to say..

The map lights are off the Dome fuse.Since you checked the bulbs, and the fuse, the only other easy thing to check is that the electrical connector on the back of the mirror is plugged into the mirror properly. If it is , and the lights still don't work, then make the dealer fix it. There is no reason you should have to be trying to diagnose defective wiring (if that's what it ends up causing the problem) on a brand new car with only 1200 miles on it.
I'd venture to say the mirror itself may be at fault...but as previously stated, your car is under warranty, unless service is completely inconvenient, take advantage of it...just let the dealer deal with it...
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
Glad they figured it out and are taking care of it. Should be a quick replacement when they get the part in.ragingfish called it. I wouldn't have thought the mirror would go bad.
As long as the mirror is in stock at the warehouse, I would think you should have it soon... I've had plenty o' parts ordered for my Vibe, and they generally tend to arrive the next day, or second day after the dealer orders them. I think the longest I've had to wait for anything was about four days for a radio. Hopefully you'll have it within the next few days... Glad they found the problem for ya!

well, the new mirror came in, and they installed it, and it shorted out too... so Im getting a little concerned.... any thoughts as to what can cause this kinda stuff? I just hope its ready tommorrow, because Im going out of town tuesday, and in that very car....
Gotta be a pinched wire somewhere..or some loose wire somewhere in the line.

Ok, I have the whole story here, so to clarify, the orig mirror was bad, the new one was not put in properly, and in the process, a ground was messed up, so the points should stay, and yes, the Vibe is all ready to take on Interstate 10:-)
