injen cai dirty?

Post by mrgrn »

I have the cai from injen and i seem to have lost some performance from it? it take off slower from first, and i have to use more clutch. I have maybe 12-14k miles on the original filter, can it just be dirty? i picked up some K&N air filter cleaning stuff at the local rip-off shop, they said to use this? They also tried to sell me a new injen fiter for $99, (removed)?

Yeah I'd clean that filter if I were you, it could be the problem. I know most people seem to clean theres a lot more then you would with the stock air filter. Mainly because its out in the open like that.Give that a try yeah and go from there.

They tried to sell you the second one probably because it will take a few days for the oil to dry in the recharge and cleaning kit. And it isn't a good idea to drive with no air filter on your car. I plan on buying a second filter when I go to change mine.Go to http://www.ptuning.com and you can get a replacement filter for about $50. If you look you can probably find universal filters for less.

Honestly. It takes about a half an hour for the filter to dry off. So, you're good to go. After that. It's not like you're supposed to submerge the filter in a bucket to clean it. There's the kit that tells you how to do it. Very easy by the way.Inder Singh

This is what Injen says about cleaning..Can my filter be cleaned or does it need replacement? All Injen Air Filters can be cleaned using cotton gauze air filter cleaners and oil that can be purchased from most major auto part stores. We suggest cleaning the filter every 30,000 miles or when it becomes visibly black in color. We recommend examining the filter every 9,000 miles.

Yeah. That makes sense. I've had mine. I've put about 3k miles on it already within a month. Before I went on a trip to the east coast, I got an oil change. I was over when I got back. So, yeah. I drove a lot. I had 13k before I left came home with 16k miles. Changed the oil before that at 12k miles.Inder Singh

i usually clean mine every 15-20K miles. and i use the k&n filter cleaning kit. works just fine. but you may want to clean your MAF too since sometimes the oils will get on it and cause it to get all gunked up too. just be careful if you clean it so you don't blow it out.

nope. should come pre oiled. but you should let it stand in the air overnight so it's not too oily or it might gunk up your MAF and throw a CEL.
