Vibe Casualty of Hurricane Charley...

Post by SGT »

Found this picture while looking at the Orlando Sentinal. The Vibe and Taurus next to it didn't fare too well during Charley's onslaught.

Ouch...I think if that was my Vibe, you'd see me in the picture collapsed on the ground next to it sobbing."Noooooooooo...now I have to get an '05!"

interesting (distressing) to see the way that the roof looks perfectly intact right up to the point where it appears to not exist anymore because the tree caved it in. Also interesting to see the angle of the rear wiper. Could the tree have turned the wiper on? is that red spot on the ground Vibe blood?

Could the tree have turned the wiper on?More likely they had the wipers on driving home in the rain the day/night before, and just turned off the car while it was in mid-wipe Sad to see that -- even looks like the frame is bent some right under the impact point....

you're probably right, although I have seen some newspaper writeups about vibe/Matrix accidents where the car didn't turn off even though the key was switched off and removed, but in those the car was running when the damage ocurred.Maybe the roof was cut off so cleanly because it had moonroof. can't really tell from the picture though

yeah, I'd say it's a dead car now. That Orlando Sentinel web site has other pics of damage at http://www.orlandosentinel.com...aking , some other (non-vibe) vehicles wasted, and this one that to me makes the incoming storm look very threatening.

Yes, those pictures are really something aren't they. I have been following the Sentinal since the hurricane happened and have been amazed at some of the damage pictures they have. Wife has family in Orlando that got some damage and are still without power.

Watch out: in the next couple of years totaled "Charley" cars will be turning up on the used car market. Happens after every flood/ storm surge. Car gets totaled due to water damage, but somehow turns up in another state with a clean title.

True speak on the roof there joat -- you'd think the rear part of the roof would have caved in a LITTLE bit...kinda just looks like the tree just cut right through the roof of the car!

I wonder who that owner is? Looks like they removed the roof rack unless thats a brand new 05...Poor little car... but i guess it goes to show just how sturdy these cars are eh?

Knowing some car dealers anymore, someone will pick it up and rebuild it and sell it to some poor soul.

Actually Mav, to me, its a little disconcerting (well, not really, but you know what I mean ) that the car's frame was sheared completely without any "help" from the rest of the car's chassis. Given the basic chassis is one piece, you'd think that if the rear would be able to absorb some of the energy from the impact. Granted it WAS a tree , and what automaker designs their cars for that? I do see what you're saying though; it is testament to the strength of the b pillar to be able to withstand that amount of force without any seeming damage from the b pillar on.Lets just hope no one was actually in the car at this time!
