I noticed the other day that my VSV (where the 3 hoses come together by the MAF sensor) was making a funny noise like it was turning on and off real fast (don't laugh now) it sounded like "pook, pook, pook, ect only at Idle. I don't get any CEL and it goes away if i just feather the gas, then comes back. i don't notice any problems mechanically or performance wise. just that noise like the valve is going on/off real fast. I took the Vibe in to get the oil changed and the injectors cleaned and i asked them to look at it and this was their reply:"Vehicle has an aftermarket air induction pipe installed. purge solenoid is echoing in pipe. purge soleniod is operating per design. noise is dampend by design of OEM induction system."I don't believe them cause the CAI been there for a almost 2 years.now when i unhook the 2 wire plug from the VSV it stops making the noise.I'm sure the dealer doesn't want to fix any emission stuff because of the CAI. any mechanics out there know whats going on or what the 2 wires pluged into the VSV go to? I'm just wondering if i should just get a new VSV.
On a base, I don't know for certain since I don't own one. On my GT, what I thought was valve chatter at idle turned out to be the VSV. Near as I can guess, they're just noisy on occasion.
The VSV in mine is just as noisy but I noticed my chatter as soon as the CAI was installed. There is nothing to worry about, it just makes that noise. As far as I know it controls a valve in the back of car., heres the tech on it :System DescriptionThe DTC P0441 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System No Flow During Purge diagnostic monitors the changes in the vacuum pressure in the fuel tank. The powertrain control module (PCM) will command the EVAP vent valve ON, CLOSED, and the vacuum pressure switching valve ON, OPEN, with the engine running. This allows engine vacuum into the entire EVAP system. The PCM continues to operate the purge valve until the vacuum has reached a specified limit, at which time the PCM commands the purge valve OFF, CLOSED. If the PCM detects the vacuum level was not achieved, or the vacuum level increased beyond the specified limit, a DTC P0441 will set.Is this what is making the noise? ...That's what it does. One of the members on VMX is having an issue with hers so thank Keely for digging this info up she also has it posted here on genvibe but her problem is different. Hope this helps.

well the noise under my hood from my CAI is driving me NUTS!! on this site somewhere someone posted a link from the matrix owners site in PDF format about how the problem is coming from the rear not the front, DTC P0441 Evaporative Emission I think it was.it seams that the VSV is ticking quietly but it is resonating (vacumn wise) thru my Injen CAI.so if anyone knows of the link please post it here. I would like to copy it and take it in to the dealer. thanks
are you sure your cia isent hitting something. I herd this ticking and i thought it was my tranny. It would get louder when the brakes were applied so i left it in drive pulled the ebrake and opend the hood. It was my cia nocking on the fender well. Im going to have to bend the bracket that goes to the vibramount to bring the entire cia out from the fender well.
