thanks for the suggestions, roundup! greatly appreciated. that's exactly what we were hoping for.. some suggestions on locations. i'm sure if we pick a location nearby food and a large parking lot, we can probably contact the place and ask them permission. that way we are not loitering and just "hanging out" taking up their space. if it's a shopping area, then i don't see why good paying patrons would get kicked out. what about a school parking lot? do the cops close those down? or a big church parking lot?

Is there a Tim Horton's, Starbucks or some type of fast food restaurant in the same parking lot? We obviously won't be watching a movie, but they might not mind us being there so much if we were paying customers.

Alright, what's the scoop? WHere would be a good place to get some hotel rooms. Dredd...how expensive is your hotel and would you recommend that place as a good location for everything?I need to figure everything out so I can get people organized here.
i second that! i know this weekend phil's going to the matrix meet so hopefully he can get some better info on locations for this. i think it might not be a bad idea just to go to a restaurant w/ a very large parking lot for dinner and the meet right after. then a cruise to D&B for drinks and games? anyone else??
plus, do we really JUST want to hang out in a parking lot for an hour or so? probably not! LOL. if we do dinner at 6 or 7 pm someplace where Dredd suggested by the best western, then we can eat, hang out a little before and after dinner, then cruise over to D&B. they can't hassle us if we just spent a bunch of money for food unless they want us all to throw it up in their parking lot. so, next question: where is a good place nearby with a big parking lot and good food?
How about a restaurant near Dave and Buster's? I was able to find two:Alice Fazooli's at 20 Colossus DriveCasey's Bar and Grill at 11 Colossus DriveThey are near the Colossus Movie Theatre, so there is plenty of parking. I haven't been in that area for a while, but from what I could remember there are tons of other restaurants in the vicinity as well.I used to work near the airport. While there are a number of restaurants that I remember going to in that area, I couldn't remember any of them having very big parking lots. If you can afford it, it might be nice to stay downtown. There's lots to see and do. However, I imagine the rates at a place downtown would be pretty steep. If you do so, try to avoid the area east of Yonge, south of Bloor, but north of Richmond.
i highly recommend the Baton rouge on the west side of Weston Rd there. The only issue is parking there. The advantage to Alice Fazoolis/Casey's/or Jack Astor's (all 3 are next to each other) is that you can literally walk there from the Collusus which may make things easier..... but the ribs at Baton rouge are awesome!
I have signatures turned off so I'm not even sure what mine says in this space!

Hey Guys, I'm not sure if I can make it out (not sure if it would really matter to anyone since i'm so new here), but I thought i'd offer my $.02 since the area is local to me. I'd say your two best bets for the pre-meeting in Mississauga would be either:a) Mississauga Road and 401 (the plaza with the boston pizza, shopsy's,swiss chalet, Tims, rooster and firkin, etc adjacent to the Royal Bank towers) Its less then a Km North of the 401 and is HIGHLY visible...orb) AMC Courtney Park. Don't let the name fool you, Courtney Park is just the name of the exact road its located on (10 and Courtney Park) Its just north of the 401 on Hwy 10 and has a decent selection of restaurants, good parking space and is HIGHLY visible too...Either way, its only a 25 min drive to D&B's from there, not even.As an aside, for those who will be staying the nite and are interested in doing something in TO, it might be worth your while to check this out:http://www.torontotourism.com/...c.htmGoodluck!
thanks for the input! good to know there's another local there. but yes, if you can make it, please do! there will be some of us out of towners coming for this as well as the Matrix guys. we're trying to combine the meet. but dredd suggested AMC courtney park as one location for the meet itself. big parking lot and easy to get to plus we can eat at one of the many restaurants. and you say about 25 mins to d&b? that would be a fun cruise! it takes me that long just to drive to work every morning! so, anyone else have suggestions too? the out of towners need to make plans and get hotel reservations.
yes me too. besides, we could always go to a movie together after dinner if we start about 6pm. that way we'd be finished eating by 7:30, head to the theater and be out by 10 pm to head to d&b to miss the big crowds. there are some good movies out like bourne supremacy, manchurian candidate, etc.... of course we'd all have to agree on a movie.... anyone interested? otherwise, we can just have the meet in the parking lot, pick a restaurant to meet by 6:30pm and get seated by 7 pm. but we'd want to call ahead to reserve us a table, and head to d&b by 9 pm.
last yearwe had a movie and DnB meetwe watched 'Matrix Revolutions' then proceeded to DnB afterwardsa pix of the meet a suggestion:make AMC Courtney park just as a staging area (pre-meet if u will)as soon as everyone is accounted forcruise to AMC Interchange 30/DnB/Famous Players Colossusyes, they are right beside each otheraround AMC theres a host of restaurants alreadywith DnB sharing same parking lotin Colossus, theres also a host of restaurants surrounding itnot only restaurants but also a small shopping plazaand right beside it is yet another plaza with a host of restaurants and shopping placesi cant possibly list each and every restaurant and shopping place thats there but be rest assured there is almost something for everyoneyou can just grab dinner from any of the nearby restaurantthen just a short hop to a movie then another short hop to DnBheck, if u watch at AMC, u can just walk over to DnBor whatever sequence you guys/gals wanna do itclub hopping right after if u guys/gals can still hack ithehehehheanywayz, just a suggestion

well i'd be up for some clubbing after d&b, but if we did that, then i wouldn't want to do a movie. plus, mav and i will have to drive back to woodstock and that'll be like an hour drive. sunday's gonna be a really busy day, so we can't be out til 3 am! but if we meet up at amc courtney first and then cruise to the giant parking lot at d&b, we could grab some food at one of the restaurants (we'll need to pick one so we can call for reservations), and then to d&b for games/drinks. i'd rather not d&b cause they make you put a non-refundable deposit down. if some of us want to go out to a club or two (cause that will be some of our last nights of freedom while in TO) i'd be down with it! i know carrie would be for sure and probably devlop and gt_x if they come too. so what time should we premeet? 6pm? then we can mingle a little first before we head out and cruise to colossus. if we can get there by 7pm, we'll be done eating by 9 pm and head to d&b for an hour or 2. any clubs that are nearby so we don't all have to try and find parking?
OK, so let's say we meet at AMC courtney at 6 pm. but where at in the pking lot? we should leave there by 6:30 pmcruise to AMC Colossus/d&b for dinner. so now we need to pick a restaurant and get a head count for everyone on gvc and mo.com to call for reservations by 7 pm.after dinner head to d&b for drinks and games by 8:30-9 pm and for anyone who wants to go clubbing afterwards, head out about 10:30-11 pm to places that are nearby and not too far so we don't have to ALL drive and find parking! so what clubs are nearby colossus?
As a one of theToronto Suburbanites here, I feel it is my duty to warn you guys: Clubbing in the Toronto suburbs just isn't worthwhile, and will be particularly disappointing for those of you are coming from quite aways. Come to think of it, i'm not sure there are actually any clubs in the 400 & 7 area. Bars yes, clubs i'm pretty sure not. Best bet for clubs is Downtown TO in the entertainment disctrict (near the princess of wales theatre); park somewhere near John and Richmond and there will be dozens of clubs and bars to pick from all within walking distance. What kind of music is everyone into anyway?
Palazzo would be the closest club to 400 & 7. http://www.palazzonightclub.ca/flash_intro1.htmlBut, uh, it's Palazzo. If there's going to be a lot of out-of-towners driving, heading downtown is a bad idea especially if there's like a 15 car convoy. You'll get split up like crazy. We (Matrix people) have done like an 8 car cruise down Yonge one night and it's pretty tough keeping everyone together even as 3 of us were on FRS radios trying to herd the group. But we did it but only because most of us knew our way around. As for the club idea, I think there's going to be way too many tastes in diff. types of music to settle on one club and please everyone. So what's the basic itinerary for the meet so far? I think "basic" is the keyword. If you try to throw and add too many things to the mix, it's just gonna be way too confusing to organize.

that's nice! wish they'd do that here too! no smoking in ANY public place in CA. makes it for a nicer experience then breathing thru a puff of cig smoke. so maybe we'll do a little bar hopping around and checking out the area. that would still be fun imo. plus, clubs can be obnoxiously loud so makes it hard to talk and visit.but what do you think of the plans so far? we still need to pick some kinda restaurant to eat at over at colossus so we can call ahead.
I'd like to circulate flyers at work and see if I can get anyone else to show up. What time and place should I put down? I'm a little worried about just putting down 6 p.m. at Courtney Park AMC if we are going to be leaving there by 6:30 p.m. During past meets, people have come and gone at different times. Should I write down 7:00 p.m. at Colossus instead?
Hello peeps,Is this get together on the Sunday? Just curious. I've never been out to such an event before. But I'm interested to attend if I can make it and if it's cool with everyone. If I do show up it'll have to be after dinner though cause I can't miss the annual rib festival in Burlington along the Lakeshore. I plan to have a rack there on Sunday.Sam
Hello Sam, would be awsome if you could make it. And you won't miss the ribs on sunday because this is going to be held saturday early evening. Hope this suits your plans

About dinner...there's an insane amount of restaurants in the Hwy 400 & Hwy 7 area. I suppose we could pick one on-the-fly at worse case. Actually, worst case would be eating at Dave & Busters because they've got a restaurant too.
I say pick something everybody can get something at: i.e. Fridays, Applebees, Ruby Tuesdays, even chilis. that way, people can get steak, ribs, chicken, burgers, or salads.i don't know about other people, i don't do steak, ribs, etc. i thought i heard someone throw a rib specific place out there...
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
we'll need to pick a restaurant ahead of time. if we pick one on the fly, w/ 20 people, we'll never get to eat. so if someone can let us know what restaurants are right there in the same parking lot, we can all vote. it's getting close now and we need to get the specifics pinned down. if we have a restaurant picked out, we can let everyone know who has to meet us there and also for reservations. we also need to pick a location for the premeet in the amc courtney park lot.
I see the original hotel is booked - for reference, can someone post the location/address of this one so I can look around for an alternate hotel? Thanks.
well, it's by the toronto airport. so i'd look for one right around there. and when i stayed the night in toronto last month, we stayed at the travelodge. it wasn't too bad. and super easy to get to. so i'd look for something nearby the 401. i'll try and look up some hotels tonight too... put a list out.
OK, the courtyard marriot toronto airport looks to be about the best bet. it doesn't look too bad on pricing either if you share w/ someone. prices range at $99 cdn per night. http://marriott.com/property/p...YYZAP and for anyone going to niagara sunday, unfortunately those hotels are a lot more. the renaissance fallsview marriott is also the best deal, but they might be booked up that night. http://marriott.com/property/propertyPage/IAGOT
