SODA, for the love of God, SODA. Pop is one of those words that gets on my nerves. Kinda like supper instead of dinner. Just wondering for those of you in the south, if you call all soda "coke" than how do you order a Pepsi or Sprite without getting a Coke by mistake. Very confusing to me. This might be one of those wars that will wage on until the end of time or sweet carbonated beverages, whichever comes first.

OK. I didn't respond to any of the poll choices, because...Quote, originally posted by futseal04 »Everything is a coke here....unless it is beer.It was always 'coke' in the central Indiana neighborhood where I grew up. My wife and my college friends from 'da Region' (the Calumet River region of northwest Indiana), always call it 'pop.'My 13-year old son (native of Lebanon, Indiana, just northwest of Indianapolis) calls it 'soda'. He must've picked it up at school. So what do the linguists among us think of THAT?

dinners and resturants refer to them as "soft drinks" But when someone is going to buy something to drink at the variety store its "Man I'm going to buy a pop, you want one?" or hey we got any pop left?

I grew up in Pennsylvania where it was soda....but for the last 10 years here in the south I've come to know it as coke. Everything's a coke. "You want a coke?" "Sure, I'll take a Sprite." It grows on you after a while.

hmm. i call it just "drink" as in "what do you have to drink?" or i'm asked "what would you like to drink?" and it's an automatic, "Dr. Pepper"my mom calls it soda, my cousins pop, and i just say drink. makes it easier.
For the most part I call it "pop." Buy, having grown up a military brat and living all over the US, you could hear me call it soda, pop, soft drink, or whatever pops into my head first

Here around Pittsburgh it is exclusively called pop. My relatives from Valporiso, IN always called it soda. Hmm, I think I'll grab a Coke now, all this soft drink talk is making me thirsty!
