i don't mind if people smoke, just be aware if it bothers someone else. blowing smoke in someone's face is rude, even if that person does smoke. people make their own decisions. accept the consequences of our own actions, and let's get on with life.

quote:i smoke once in a while at a party etc...Im the type of person that can control myself, i wouldnt get addicted to anything, and if i did i could stop.- WOW. Spoken like a true addicted smoker. How many times have I heard lifelong smokers say that. You're well on your way to a lifetime of smoking. I dont care if other people do unless they blow smoke in my face. It doesnt bother me- It may not 'bother' you, but it's killing you.Why should non smokers say all that **** against tobacco companies? they dont smoke.- Money. Tobacco companies have proven they are dishonest, immoral and predatory. Their product costs society billions of dollars every year. States are trying to recoup some of those preventable costs. If you keep the politics out of it, that's all it's about.Smokers make their own choice.- And non smokers make theirs. Choosing to live a smoke free life is also a choice. A smoker's choice is not compatible with a non smoker's choice. Smokers lose every time, as they should. It's your addiction, not mine.

first of all, the government gets a buttload of money for every pack you buy. when i started smoking, cigs were $2.25, they are now up to almost $5 in some places, all because of taxes that the state and federal governments receive.I should have known better than to have start a thread with the word "smoke" in it. Suddenly we have all kinds of opinions on an off topic. As for second hand smoke, there are studies that say second hand smoke may not cause as many ailments as previously thought. there are studies that says it does. I'm sure that there will someday be a study that says if you fart in your car with the windows up, it causes cancer. Everything causes cancer. (the grease in oreos for god sake!) Everyone needs to relax and remember that whining is annoying. this thread was started with a simple question about what people allow in their cars, not everyone's political standing on smoking. Jeese Louise!

Now that it's off topic,...This topic seems to provoke some really strong opinions. Both sides agree that it is not healthy, and I guess unless you are a smoker, it's hard to understand just how powerful the addiction can be. I've had some people close to me unsuccessfully try to quit and some that have been able to do it. As a friend, the things that help the most are support and understanding. Typically, name calling and hostility may be intended to shock the person into adopting your point of view, but end up triggering defensive responses, alienation and resent. At that point you've lost the ability to advise, and you lose. I'm no shrink, but have lost several dear ones to smoking related illnesses. It goes without saying that anyone who currently does not smoke should never take it up, and those that do would be better off if they quit. We all know that, there's no argument there. It's just not as easy as deciding to drink Pepsi instead of Coke. If anyone is up to 2 packs a day, quitting would save enough money to buy a supercharger in a year (probably when they'll be available).

nicely put. people do need to understand that calling smokers names and things will never get anything accomplished, it will just fuel the fire. (which will then be used to light a cig.!) hahaha!

quote:Read the package! I agree with you but playing the devils advocate I'll say this, back in the 50's 60's early 70's the warning label wasn't there.and hollywood incouraged it as stylish. just like todays top stars incourage a certain lifestyle. as far as the 70's and up well your right I've never understood how people could think that lighting something and then sticking it in their mouth wasn't bad for their health??

Seems like John Wayne smoked in all his movies, so if you wanted to be like John Wayne, you smoked too. I remember hearing a quote attirbuted to him that he never said "Since I lost one of my lungs, I've cut my smoking in half!"Probably a better quote, a mod of a W.C.Fields line is"Quitting smoking is easy, I've done it a thousand times"

I smoke like a chimney in mine. I vacuum it out at least once a week, and I have made some seat covers out of beach towels. I had the towels in my last car for 6 years, no burn holes and hardly any fading.Get a beach towel, punch 2 holes in one end to fit the headrest holes in the seat you got a cheap seat cover! And I also fold one for the bottom part of the seat as well.

I smoke in my car, but use my ashtray for butts, ashes go out the window. I vacuum and detail the interior of my car often, and I try not to smoke when there's a non-smoker in the car unless they say they don't mind. Eating and drinking in the car, I prefer to wait until we ger where we're going, but on occasion it's cool, as long as the people I'm with are mature enough to throw away their trash and not spill anything (I found old taco bell wrappers with god-knows-what-it-used-to-be in the Vibe when I had it)
