2004 Rockers on a Monotone - Anyone tried yet?

Post by johnnyride »

Hey all. I'm a newbie on the forum..but not to the Vibe. I'm actually on my 3rd one. I now have a Monotone 2004 AWD Salsa. I like the 2004 Rocker extensions and want to add them to my car. I figure other than paint to match, it shouldn't be a problem, but I just wondered if anyone else had done it. Also, has anyone put 225-50-16 on the 16" stock rims? I know they should fit, but is it safe? 225-50-16 is almost exactly the same as 205-55-16. And one last question while I'm rambling...has anyone lowered their AWD Vibe? Thanks. John

Welcome to the Encyclopedia of Vibe! Wow 3 Vibes already? That may be a record! Here's what I recall of recent posts (I've been a member since February 2004) regarding your questions: 1) I'm certain someone with a two-tone has put the '04 rocker panels on an '03, but I'm not aware of anyone with a monotone doing it. 2) I'm pretty sure someone has put the 225/50's on the factory 16" alloys. I know user MadBill has a very wide (Corvette) wheel/tire combination on his car. Try searching MadBill's posts for the term 'bigboots'3) I'm certain someone has put lowering springs on an AWD, but it might have been over on matrixowners.com. The username Greenfire comes to mind. I think he also has a supercharger. Also, be sure to try the 'SEARCH' function. Since you have a range of questions, you might get more knowledgeable responses if you repost specific questions in the forums that are more specific ('Wheels & Tires', and 'Handling, Suspension, and Brakes'). I know just enough to be dangerous.

My 2003 Vibe Base Auto 2-tone Salsa "SalsaWagon" was built in May 2002. I acquired it in Feb 2004/Traded it in on a 2016 Honda HR-V in Feb 2018.

That's a good question. I've always like those '04 rockers and wanted to pick up some for my '03. I bet they're cheaper than the appearance package skirts..

ya i was wondering the same thing. but wanted to wait and see what bodykits may be coming out... hmm. well, i'll have to save some money for that perhaps next yr. just too many travel expenses to justify spending $600+ on a kit and then another $400+ to paint it.

Well, we'll find out. I just ordered the rockers and flaps from gmparts.com. The rockers were $50.92 each, mudflaps were $21 per set..and yes, I did order the new front flaps. I'll snap a picture when it's done. My thing now is should I paint to match, or maybe paint the flaps and rockers flat black. Not sure how that will look, but we'll see. Thanks for the help...and yes, I have had 3 Vibes..A Neptune Mono FWD in September 2002, )I actually was going to buy an Envy, but couldn't get myself to do it), then traded that in for a Frosty AWD Two-Tone in May 2003...and I always wanted a Mono Salsa, so I traded for that 2 weeks ago. It's Mono with M&T/Power/!6" Wheels and 6 Disc. I think I'll be putting the 17's on though for summer. ANd for anyone else reading my threads, I have seen and [photographed an Abyss with the Satellite Sport Package on it. If I do this right, there should be a photo attached.

Sorry, I didn't do it right. I'll try to figure it out and post if anyone is interested. Maybe I'll start a new thread for it.

looks like they cut the top of the rear extentions so the lines match up from the side rockers to the rear bumper. it looks OK, but i don't like the satellite spoilers. they should be black imo.

still.... looks like they attached cheap plastic parts painted the wrong color. if they kept the side skirts the same, and then used that line all the way around, painted the top side of the front, upper portion of the rear, and the spoilers abyss (make it look more like a 2 tone monte carlo) it would look like it was supposed to be like that. the way it is now kinda reminds me of a ricer who added a body kit but left it white and hadn't painted it yet. but that's just mho. if you like it, then go for it.

No, I'm not going to do it. Just thought I'd share some pics. That's why I bought the 2 tone 04 Rocker Extensions and flaps. When I get them installed and painted, I snap spme pics and start a thread.

I kind of like the idea, but I think the two colors contrast too much. I've been thinking about doing something like this, but in black. I just wouldn't do the front and rear facias, but if the '04 rockers are only ~$50 each, and they fit, I'll go that route with my mid-spoiler! One thing though, are the '04 rockers simply extensions or replacements? I don't think there's anything to replace in the first place, but I don't know. Please keep us posted

I believe they simply go over the existing rocker-less area. We'll find out.

Man, I wish we had a catalogue of part numbers for body peices in all available colors EDIT: Oh wait, don't they only come in the cladding color/texture? I hope the texture doesn't cause painting problems.

They only come in cladding color, Driver side is 88973002, Pass side is 88973001. I'll post pics when I receive and install, but that could be at least 3 weeks from now as it sometimes take GMParts 2 weeks to ship. Cost as GMpartsdirect is $50.92 each plus shipping

I had that combination on my Sunfire GT (with factory wheels, 205/55/16 stock) with no problems. Nice difference in handling/grip too.- Ryan

HEY johnnyride!...THAT"S MY IDEA! ('04 Rockers and flaps painted to match) --- j/k When you finally get them shipped, do you plan to try 'em on before you have the parts painted? I'd LOVE to see pics of them on the car before and after you have them painted to match.I've been planning to do the same since the 04 rockers came out but I just haven't had the time. If it looks as good as I think it will, maybe I'll finally make the time.Thanks.

I just checked GMParts and it looks like they shipped. I'll snap some pics when they arrive. I still haven't figured out the paint thing yet. I may paint the flaps and rockers black (Salsa Monotone Vi be) and install, or paint the rockers salsa and the flaps black or maybe salsa too. Decisions, decisions....I don't know how my wife puts up with me...

Guys, I did get them. They are being painted. They do not just go over the old ones as someone else thought. They are attached from the bottom, probably with plastic pop-ins and then double sticked on the inside of the car on the top portion. Because of this, I couldn;'t just put them where they belong on the car and snap a picture. They slid in in the rear portion, but not even close up front with the original trim in place. It would not make a good picture. The old ones have to be removed. I'll try to get a picture before we install them so you can all see what I mean. I'm painting them body color with the flaps black. My body guy is busy, but I'll see what I can do. Hang in all..I can't wait either.

good deal! cause my side rockers are trashed! all scratched to hell! and i'm reluctant to fix them.... when i do, i will probably see about that stone guard stuff so it won't scratch the paint all up on the sides.
