Hey Guys, I posted this on MO.com, thought I'd post here for some more input....I just swapped out one of my factory speakers with an MB-Quart 5.25 Inch speaker. I just did one because that's all the time I had to do (I sound-deadened the inside of the door and build the baffle for both speakers out of MDF. Note that everything else is stock (it wont be by the end of the week).. and the problem I have is this. On the right side front-door I have a Polk Tweeter and and MBQuart 5.25 Coax. On the left side I have the factory tweeter and 6.5. But here's what ticks me off, with the FAder set to the front on the factory CD/Tape on my 04 XR, The left side has alot more low end, and it seemsjust alot better put together... What's going on? I hate to spend all that time doing the other side and the back doors(there'll be some kenwoods back there soon, and end up with worse sound. Any ideas.. I switched the polarity on the right side, but the same thing... What's the Dilly-o? I think the Quarts model number is qm 130KX, they're made in germany.
I love the MB-Quarts, had them in my old car. How did you mount the speaker, if you don't mount it so the speaker covers the entire mounting hole and it's not securely mounted, you will losa almost all bass. I cut out wood pieces to replace the original speaker mounts and it sounds great.

Because the whole is like almost a 6.5 and the speakers are 5.25 I made a MDF spacer about 5/8" think. It should be pretty solidly mounted. I thought the better the speaker the more sensitive, and therefore more responsive to power. But on the other forum someone said that the Quart's are stiff and require more power to produce lower end. Any help?Omar
I've got Matrix, and I dont have an external Amp AFAIK. Since there is nothing underneat the passenger seat (under the driver's seat there's the invertey, correct)? But you may be right, the factory speakers may be lower impedance. I'll check it.
I did run my old MBs at 200 amps per channel @4 ohms so that may be why they bumped.EDIT NOT amps, watts, don't mind me, my mind isn't exactly at home in the morning.

Do you have a crossover in with that MB Quart and the Polk tweeter? If not, how are they wired up? It could be the impedance of the tweeter and the coaxial speaker is really sucking things up. Check the impedance on all three speakers, the factory stuff (tweeter and mid), the Polk, and the MB Quart. Also, the Polk and MB are MUCH better speakers, so they require a little more power than the stock speakers to sound really good. Are you still using your factory HU?

John,I have the factory headunit and everything is in parallel with caps on the + side of each tweeter lead. ( i.e. 1-Mid 2 Tweeters)The factory speakers are listed at 4Ohms.I am currently running everything off the factory deck, but that will change soon.
