Re: 2009 1.8 engine idle issue

Jolt.....appreciated your post concerning my idle issues. Since then I have removed the throttle body and cleaned the butterfly thoroughly.....no improvement. Considering your comment about gear set wear in the control section, I replaced the throttle body with a used unit which appears to be in goo...

2009 1.8 engine idle issue

When coming to a complete stop, the idle speed will hold briefly at 1000rpm and then drop to 750/800 rpm. After approx. 10 seconds or so, there seems to be a click and the idle speed will return to 1000rpm......hold that for a few seconds, then return to 750/800 rpm.....will continue to cycle like t...

Re: Is it safe to use Toyota ATF T-IV ?

I have on 2 occasions gone to a GM dealership and purchased Toyota T-IV for my Vibe transmission. They buy it by the case in Toyota packaging! It's the only thing that I'll use in my Vibe and my Matrix XR.

Re: tranny fluid (lovemyraffe)

The Toyota T-IV is a synthetic fluid. Buy it from a Toyota dealer for five dollars and change per quart....Gm could ask you to pay Eleven Dollars per quart.

Re: (offnpublic)

when the intake gasket leaks, you get a lean fuel mix which throws the improper fuel mixture code. It also will cause an intermitent rough idle condition. Its not a difficult repair......there are several threads about it on this site. If you attempt this repair, get your replacement gasket from a T...

Re: Differential Whine (Whelan)

Whelan.....I cannot speak specifically to a Matrix rear end, but generally when a 3rd member gets to whining, its going to need much more than a fluid change. You've most likely got ring and pinion gear noise caused by a bad bearing which has thrown the mesh of these gears out of specs.....and only ...

Re: Anyone with 2007 get 2nd Letter for PCM Recall? (nerka)

I think the process is set up to start with the oldest first.....that is, they began the actual recall with the 'O5's and are working their way up. The reasoning behind it is that the number of replacement parts is limited. They did not want to send out all the letters at once, and then have a backu...

Re: Low idle and stutter (Marrtok)

Marrtok.....low engine idle and stutter could very well indicate a vacuum leak. Has it thrown a code number?? There are threads here referring to replacing intake manifold gasket which was a rather common problem on the 1.8 engine. A rather easy and cheap fix.Ken

I've got to say I'm very happy with how this process went. Last week I called Fox Buick GMC in Grand Rapids Mi and asked them if they could order the parts if I gave them my numbers. They said I needed to come in for them to scan all 3 computers and determine which, if any, needed replacing. So, las...

atcdude....if you're still having problems, give some thought to the intake manifold gasket issues that are fairly common with these engines. Its an easy, inexpensive fix, and would cause the the problems you are listing.Ken

Intake manifold gasket is not difficult to change. I replaced mine, but the only problem I was having was a stumble on idle, and not all the time.Buy your gasket from a Toyota Dealer....much cheaper than GM.

An Air Conditioning Question.....

I have an 05 Vibe and an 05 Matrix...air conditioning seems to work well on both. However, they operate quite differently. When you turn on the air in the Vibe, the radiator cooling fan and the compressor start together and continue to run...non stop until you turn the air off. The Matrix cooling fa...
