personally i have always paid cash for cars and the opted out of the collision insurrance. If you dont fully own the car you have to get collision. I currently pay $34 a month to insure a WRX!! if i had collision im sure it would be over $100.

wow 3200 rpm at 75 sounds pretty high but that is probably the only way that little engine can have any acceleration at high speeds. I would expect a big difference between 60 and 75 with most any car. 37mpg is great!

clutches are very sturdy these days. Vibe has very little torque which means very little wear. If i can get 97k mi and counting on a WRX clutch with agressive driving occasionally then you will most certainly get 100k on teh vibe. worst case i would say 75k, best case probably 150k. in the EPA testing im sure the auto managed better mileage than the manual. But in the real world it is very rare for a manual to get worse mileage than an auto. Just go look at fueleconomy.gov and check out the data submitted by owners.

if you are considering the 2.4L vibe i would highly recommend you also look at the scion xB. It is the same car for less money with more space and likely higher resale value. Be sure to test drive it as well.

also wanted to mention that if you are most concerned about saving money then something like a used vibe or matrix will be better than a used Prius. I believe that a scion xB has a significantly larger cargo hold. It is basically the same mechnicals as the Vibe 2.4 The car is not as long and doesnt have the plastic seat backs but the cargo hold is something like 70ft^3 opposed to roughly 50ft^3 for the vibe.

well considering that 34mpg is 5-6 mpg over the EPA rating, id say that is pretty darn good.For those of us who care about MPG it is always good to say how you were driving at the time. on the highway at 55 or 75... it makes a huge difference.
