Diagnose my 5 speed issues

2005 base vibe. 159,000 easy/highway miles. Just the other day the temps dropped into the 20's and I'm noticing that when in 3,4,5th gear at about 2,000rpms and I floor it the motor revs up about 500-1,000rpm then drops back down and it seems as if the clutch is catching up with the motor's speed. N...

How to change serpentine belt?

I'd like to do this on my own. What tools will I be needing and how difficult a job is this? I'd also like to find a picture of what it looks like installed from the side so I know where to replace the belt. My stock one has 147,000 miles on it and I think it's time to replace. I have a garage, tool...

Stereo lights on, but now power, cig lighter out too.

I plugged in a USB/car charger in my cig lighter and it ended up shorting something out. The cig lighter does not work anymore but it still is illuminated. The head unit/radio is the same way. I can push the recall button and the led screen lights up with the time but the power button does nothing. ...

Need a new head unit will this work?

Pioneer FH-X700BT

$129/amazon prime. Has bluetooth and usb. Wondering if it will be too big to fit though?

My old one still lights up but no sound/power. Cig lighter is out as well. I checked the fuses and they look good.

Re: 140,000 time for new struts?

Got them installed, rotors turned and an alignment (All for $225!) I bought the car with 44K on it, so don't know what a new one feels like but it's quite a difference. On my highway route to work there are a few spots where it gets pretty squirrley on some bumpy wide radius turns. Not anymore. It's...

Re: 140,000 time for new struts?

Well I ordered everything through Amazon (prime) and cross referenced all the parts with KYB's online catalog. I got the following for my FWD 2005 Vibe: Excel G 235704 (front strut left) Excel G 235703 (front strut right) Excel G 344612 x 2 (rear shock) Strut Boot SB102 x 2 for the front. Strut Boot...

Re: 140,000 time for new struts?

I think you should get the mounts also. I'm in the same boat on my Trix and Vibe...145K and 135K. If those struts/shocks are for the car, the stock spring should work. A wheel alignment would be in order after the work I Plan on putting lowering springs on the Vibe but will put new the struts and m...

Re: 140,000 time for new struts?

I think I'll go with the KYB GR2's that are listed on Amazon. $233 for front and rears. Does anyone know if my stock springs will fit on these? As for tires, they have always worn evenly and I keep 35lbs of pressure in them. Check them once every other week. In addition to shocks/struts can someone ...

Re: How many miles on your Vibes?

142,000 miles. 2005 base 5 speed. Only had to replace a right wheel bearing and tie rods on the right side due to sliding into a curb when someone pulled out in front of me in a parking lot. Rest has been normal maintenance that I do myself. Valvoline 5w-30 non synthetic and a purolator filter every...

140,000 time for new struts? UPDATE, review, questions.

The ride is still pretty good and I do 90+ percent highway driving. I plan on keeping the car for at least another 100K. Just put on new tires (Michelin Defenders) and had the right inner/outer tie rod replaced. No other repairs. I did see a set of KYB's on Amazon for $266 (free shipping with my pri...

don't have time to jack it up and snap one, but if you get under the car there is a heat shield on the under side of the header and there are 4 bolts that attach it. 2 are spread out(towards the engine)and 2 are close together(towards the cat). Mine was the passenger side spread out bolt that was WA...

Buzz at certain RPM only when in drive...

05 Base 5-speed. 80K, Bought it at 45K and still had the problem. Thought it was a bolt or heat shield but still can't find what is causing the buzz. If I tap my hand on the header heat shield it makes that same noise around 2,800rpm. Hard to describe the sound but it's definitely annoying (GF has a...

Sticky radio buttons

05 Vibe with 45K on it. As you know the presets are numbered 1-6 for the stations. 2,5 & 6 presets feel like you're pushing on a semi hard piece of bubble gum, almost like a can of pop was spilled and got in there. The 2 stays in the pushed in position so long when I push it that it makes the &q...

Re: Howling from Rear brake drum... (ToolGuy)

45K on the car. Drums had probably never been off until I had my local shop inspect it before I purchased it (used one older owner). I took a look at everything when the wheels were off and the drums were popped open, pads all around were thick and in good shape.

Guys, quit spending money on expensive brand name cleaning cr@p.Go to the hardware store and buy a gallon of Kerosene. I use it on all my cars for wheels/bugs on plastic and on my entire bike. Once you use it you'll never go back.

Howling from Rear brake drum...

Every now and then (10 miles or so). I'll get a howling noise in my right rear drum. The noise ramps up (gets louder) and the only thing that will stop it is if I give the E/parking brake a slight lift which engages the rear drums.I can handle pads and rotors but am lost when it comes to drum brakes...

Tire size for an 05 Base 5 speed?

I'm picking up the car on Monday from the (used) car dealer but don't know the size tires off the top of my head. Tire rack lists them as being two different sizes (205's and 215's) Anyone know the correct size for the Base model 05 (not GT and not AWD).Thanks.

Turns out the front driver side tire was at 15psi....Didn't even think to check it so took it to my local shop, they checked the entire car out for any accidents, all the brakes etc for just $50 and found the problem. Good piece of mind...I ended up getting the car and am picking it up on Monday.

5 speed clunky and notchy?

My other car is a 2001 Civic EX. Shifting through the gears is smooth as butter. I've had a 98 prelude as well with bad synchros. Steering to the left and "light" steering

Test drove an 05 today that I'm looking at buying and when you let go of the wheel it wants to go left. Also when you brake the steering shutters back and forth (with hands off the wheel). It also has a very light front end feel? Is this normal (the light front end)? Also do you think it's just an al...
