Re: (JustinVGT)

I noticed a pretty loud squeak today, driving slowly on a friend's bumpy driveway.I immediately thought of this thread. It sounded like a rotational squeak, and seemed like it increased as speed increased. Like a squeaky wheel.I initially thought it was coming from my front driver's wheel, but I hea...

Manual transmission issues

Hi everyone. I posted this in the Maintenance Bay forum but like one looks busier, and I am hoping for some advice about this...It's starting to make the whirring sound again. It almost sounds like heavy wind noise or an exhaust leak coming from under the passenger floorboard. It only happens under ...

Re: (northvibe)

I don't know, but I don't think so.The clutch was new last spring when I replaced the tranny. It's just eerily reminiscent of the way it sounded before it failed. Except quieter...I was hoping it was a small exhaust leak, but I had it looked at and nothing was found. My everyday mechanic said not to ...

joatman,My first one made the whirring sound cruising at 55-60. It always became more pronounced if you hit the gas.The whir right now isn't as loud as it was before, so I'm hoping I'll have a little time to plan.Didn't you use a corolla trans the 2nd time?Last time, I talked a local transmission pl...

Manual transmission

Happy Easter everyone! The whirring sound is coming back. My 04 Vibe MT has 113,000 miles on it and I replaced the original trans last year in April at about 91,000. I opted for a used one with 55,000 miles, so my trans now has about 75,000 miles.I was wondering (should it fail again) (%$#*!) what yo...

5sp manual transmission update

Got my 2004 Vibe back from the mech about a week ago. We went cheap and found what I hope to be a good deal (time will tell) on a used manual trans. Spent 950USD for the part and it's supposed to have had 55K miles on it. Its drives great again. And it's definately quieter. I had no reference with d...

Re: (northvibe)

Not the clutch, definately the tranny. This is a base 04. It's been diagnosed by a trusted mech. And I heard some awful loud clicking and clunking noises putting the darn thing on the tow truck. Although I'm going to replace the clutch as well.Anyone else offer any help?Thanks,-E.

5sp transmission -- New? Remanufactured? New *and* remanufactured?

Well, I bought my Vibe only a couple months ago and now the manual transmission is dead. It's an 04, maybe the first 04 to report dead here? It was driven by the previous owner twice a week on a 400 mile highway trip for work. Immaculate maintainence records. 91K+ miles. Depressing considering I fel...
