Thanks. Looks like it was the MAF. I cleaned it previously but I didn't realize I was only getting what I think is a temperature bulb, not the diodes deep in the assembly. It seems like power and gas mileage is coming back. Does it make sense to pull the battery to reset the computer? Thanks again.

Whirrling Noise.. gas mileage

Hi,I have a 2004 Base with 137k miles. It has been about trouble free. I changed a belt tensioner at 50k miles and an 02 sensor maybe about 5k miles ago, but thats about it other than routine maintenance (plugs, tranny fluid and oil). Lately I have been noticing a pretty quiet whirrling noise that c...

Re: Burning Smell Uphill (star_deceiver)

Thanks for the reply. I'm pretty sure the tranny bolts are ok because I had the filter changed since this started. I wonder if it's the tires. It really does smell like burning rubber. I had this combo last winter too and it didn't cause the problem though.

Burning Smell Uphill

Hi,I have a 2004 Pontiac Vibe with 120k miles on it. Recently I noticed when I go up a hill with about a 500ft climb or so over a mile (maybe a steeper climb than that), there is a burning smell almost like burning rubber/tires or brakes coming in from the sunroof. I cannot smell it with the window ...

Thanks for the replies. I haven't tried resetting the ECU. I'll do that and see what it does. I haven't checked for leaks either, but it doesn't idle rough at all. The RPMs are steady when it idles.

RPM bounce

Hi!I've had an '04 Vibe since it had 18k miles (57k now). Ever since I got it, there's been a bounce in the RPMs when you take your foot off the gas. It only seems to, or mostly happens, around 35-45 mph (so 4th gear). It's automatic. I take my foot off the gas, the RPMs drop, to lets say 1600 or so...
