Re: (ragingfish)

yeah... I've almost passed out a few times waiting for a new Firebird.I'll make it worse - they need to bring back the F-body AND shove a forced-induction motor into it. Turbo FMIC LS1, maybe.Yeah, I know. Pipe dream.

Re: (damronjr)

If Pontiac can expend all of that effort for teh Grand Prix, Grand Am, Sunfire (G8, G6 and G5), then they can bring back a GT-class 2+2 two-door hatchback car with a long-hood short-trunk design...The Firebird. Just as long as it doens't look like all the other recent Pontiac offerings, and especial...

Re: (LUVROK)

If the Firebird is brought back looking anything like the latest Camaro, it should stay gone. Here's a list of stuff I think the Firebird and Trans Am should include. Feel free to disagree as you see fit.It needs flip-up lights (twenty years of having them wasn't too bad) to set it apart from the Cam...

Re: (coldmm803)

I've seen the Tiburon vid, pretty cool stuff. ALmost like the old-school Olds 4-4-too much of yore, only smaller.Someone managed to stuff a Chevy 3.1 (LHO, I think) into the trunk area of an Oldsmobile Cutlass W-body, pretty neat hack 'n' weld project.

Re: Engine swaps (kevera)

Yep, something like that, the LS7 is 427 of all-aluminum goodness. A BBC woudl weigh appreciably more, so swapping that into a little car like a Vibe would be pretty much crazy, unless you mid/rear-engined the thing...Hey, now that would be pretty cool - a two-seater Vibe with a huge engine stuffed ...

Re: How to change the spark plugs (ColonelPanic)

Yup, never pull them out of an aluminum head when hot. I did that to my '96 Grand Prix and totally screwed up the front head. I had to do the Jedi Monkey Grip to MAKE it get back in there. Trust me, you will know if you're cross-threading the plug, it will not go in by hand at all - then, if you're ...

Re: (mistertwo)

Some backpressure is good? No. Never is backpressure a good thing. Scavenging is good, and that can get screwed up by having too-big a pipe, but that isn't a lack of backpressure casuing a loss of power, that's exhaust gasses not being drawn out of the cylinders properly. Excessive backpressure will...

Engine swaps

Wondering if anyone here has contemplated swapping in different engines - a 2zz in place of the 1zz, or something more potent like a VR6 or a 4G63T or even wierder stuff like a twin-turbo 427 SBC on nitrous bolted to a Powerglide and a Ford 9-inch for the rear axle with a 4.50 final drive ratio.Just...

Re: (goodvibe)

When I was younger, I used to buy all those cool nifty products all the time, thnking I was saving money or I was keeping my engine from wearing out sooner. I even bought one of those Teflon-impregnated oil filters to see what it would do. Didn't do squat. A worn-out engine needs a rebuild, pure and...

Re: Stage Engines (Lancer)

Ah, the little-known 20th Anniv. Turbo Trans Am... When Buick ran around with the boosted Regal T-Types and Grand Nationals (and who can forget the 1987 GNX) during the early to mid eighties, they usd a 3.8L V6 mated with an intercooled (in the later years anyway) turbo feeding it around 15 PSI. Whe...

300 or so is what I get, also. Around 320, it's time to start looking for a gas station. Not a whole lot of freeway driving (it's Hawaii, after all) but I can go, on average, two weeks between fill-ups, for less then thirty bucks a tank.

Re: Polydyn TX7 - Increase you HP & torque for under $25 (BlueCrush)

It's Teflon, ground down real fine, pure and simple. Not too sure I'd use it, but your mileage may vary. I've heard various thing about adding PTFE to oil, not all of them good.EDIT: I Kant spel

Stage Engines

Anyone here decided to go all-out on their engine -1ZZ to be specific - I was perusing the stuff they have for sale at monkeywrenchracing.com, but they don't post before and after results (that or I just didn't see them) for a 1ZZ or 2ZZ engine. So, has anyone decided to drop serious coin into havin...

Re: (damronjr)

I'll have to dig for some reinforcement parts for my 1ZZ (if there's any even made), that or just swap a 2ZZ in, instead, and boost that. I'll cross that bridge when I get there, I suppose.I would guess that for such a small displacement motor like ours, we would need all the CR we can get, just hav...

Re: One Year (VforVIBE)

I'm going to get rid of the door decals, but yeah, I'm keeping it white. The aerofin is crunchy (what ones aren't!??) so that will be replaced with a fiberglass unit, looks bone stock.SFC's are a must as it's a t-top car - I had an '88 GTA and it was way more solid-feeling since it was a solid-roof ...

Re: One Year (ANO_Vibe)

The TTA is, in a word, unique. I've only seen one on Ohau, ever, and I now own it. It's ragged around the edges, though, they either come in two flavors - extra nice or extra ragged-out. The ragged otu ones are affordable to most, but making it extra-nice will cost a bundle. It needs paint, heater c...

Re: (keithvibe)

DBW is perhaps the worst thing about the Vibe that irks me. Bypass possible, or would the ECM flip out? AKA, route a for-real throttle cable between the pedal and a cable-driven throttle body.

Couple of Q's for those who run boost...Does anyone use a block girdle to strengthen the bottom end up, or are the main caps suitable to retain the crank? Forged crank? Rods? Pistons? Did anyone decide to have their compression ratio lowered so as to handle more boost? Special bearings being used? H...

She couldn't be happier. She plans to let me at it when we're ...

Re: Basic suspension components (NUBlackshirts)

I've been a Pontiac nut ever since I bought a very used 1989 beat-up Grand Prix SE. Never looked back. I've owned a 1996 base GP, a beat-to-trash '87 Firebird, a fully-optioned 1988 Trans AM GTA, and I picked up the Turbo T/A a little over a year ago. I already installed a Spohn front-end rebuild ki...

Basic suspension components

I have an '06 base-model Vibe. Besides the driver (most important), what sort of basic options are out there that would improve handling characteristics? Sway bars, strut tower braces, shocks/struts/springs, tires, bushings and the like? I'm not looking for radical 3-inch drops, huge amounts of nega...
