Re: Changing the clutch in a Pontiac Vibe or Toyota Matrix

Update, I put another clutch in about 2 years ago and 13K miles ago. I ended up using an EXEDY stock clutch kit for a change of pace. So far no issues whatsoever, so the quality must have improved since 2003. It actually feels perfect even 2 years later. The motor / tranny mounting design STILL SUCK...

Have not been on in a while. It looks like some of the information is obsolete in my original post. Since my 3rd clutch just went (110K miles) I will try to update this using everyone's advice. Stand by!

This car is so reliable I never need to come on GenVibe for help. 105,000 and still going strong. On the 3rd clutch though.

I taped 2 pennies to the back of the pedal arm where it hits the clutch switch. Works like a charm!-just my 2 cents worth, realred96

It is the A/C compressor magnetic clutch coil I'll bet. Mine just went out on my 03 GT. It took longer to find the part than fix it! Pontiac could not even get the compressor clutch. they told me I had to buy the entire compressor to get it. i found one at Auto zone. it was about $128.00.

Re: Changing the clutch in a Pontiac Vibe or Toyota Matrix (cieglo)

NorthVibe:A. I'm not sure on that one. I would be real careful of laying timbers across the fenders. Can you do this under a rafter or tree and use a come-a-long? It also may be possible to support the engine from below.B. I'm with you on lazy. I had to remove all that crap to get to the shifter bra...

Don't know if it is a direct swap, but I changed out a 6 speed the other day and it was not hard, I would look at the Celica 2000-2005 sites and see if any threads on doing what you are asking. It may be possible pretty easily

Changing the clutch in a Pontiac Vibe or Toyota Matrix

After reading many incomplete strings on how to change the clutch I decided to try it on my own and write about it. It was really not has hard as I thought it would be, but I would not recommend this procedure if this is the first time you have ever done a clutch change on anything. You do not have ...

61K. Clutch started getting bad at 40K but we milked it. I never liked the way the stock clutch felt. I have an RPS in it now and it is great

Clutch installation

Just installed a RPS sport series pressure plate with a street disk and am gery pleased with the result. This is on a 2003 GT . Clutch really started to go south at 50K but we milked it to 61K. I did the installation in my garage by myself and it was not that bad of an ordeal. I did a write up with ...
