Axle seal and pinion seal on the transmission...Anybody having these issues?

I sold my Vibe but am asking this question on behalf of my parents who own a 2003 AWD Vibe. Car has around 80K easy miles. My mother just took it into service and the dealer said the "axle seal and pinion seal on the transmission" were leaking. They want $800 to fix it.Are there any other ...

Re: check engine light CEL (Strobo43)

Yep, first thing the dealer told me to check was the gas cap. If the light doesn't turn off in a couple days, I'll take it in to get it checked out. I'm sure it's something insignificant. Car seems pretty reliable to far.

check engine light CEL

Does anyone know if the Vibe/Matrix have a check engine light that automatically comes on after XXX miles? My friend has a Jetta, and the CEL is "scheduled" to come on at various mileage intervals so that the car can be checked out by the dealer periodically.Anyway, my CEL came on yesterda...

Re: The Vibe Down! (Sub-Vibe-R)

If there is a short circuit, then it's completely believable that the wire (even 8 gauge) could get hot enough to melt the insulation. Where is the fuse located within the circuit? By the amp or by the battery? If it's by the amp, and something between the fuse and battery broke through the insulati...

Re: Release date for supercharger could be in April(?) (cohocarl)

I'm not on this board very much, so forgive me if I'm asking questions that have already been answered elsewhere. What will be included with the supercharger kit? Will it require larger injectors, upgraded fuel pump, ECU upgrade to control additional fuel? Will the kit be available as something that c...

Re: TRD 1zz supercharger (jeremyk)

Also:You can't possibly tell me that launching at/near the powerband on the 2zz is going to lead to a fast 1/4 mile. You'll blow your tires right off. My little base Vibe blows the tires off if I launch much over 2000 rpms. You'd really have to ride the clutch to keep the RPMS up and keep the tires ...

Re: TRD 1zz supercharger (DABEAR95)

With more torque, the 1zz SC won't need the close gearing of the six speed. Assuming equal HP, the SC would win.

Re: an old intercooler:any sugestions on how to clean this thing?? (Admin II)

Yes, I was going to suggest gasoline. Just be careful and do it outdoors. Blow it out with compressed air. It will take you about 5 minutes to do it this way and you'll probably only have to do it once. Just don't be stupid with gas and you'll be fine.

Lug nuts should be a bit easier to find...I'd just take one off and go to your local parts store. Determine the thread pitch and diameter, and match it up to the style lug nut you need. They should only cost you about $1/each.

Thanks for the info. TireRack was exactly the place I had been checking out, and that would have been a pretty big mistake if I had ordered the "Toyota" 15" wheels without verifiying this first.Keep posting if you get any additional info.thanks

Brake compatability and wheel size questions

I'm considering changing over to 15" steel wheels and snow tires for winter use. I've read that the Toyota Corolla 15" wheels will work on our cars. Are the brakes (pads/shoes) on the Vibe the same as the Corolla? Same part number etc? Also, I'd just like to verifiy one last time that the 1...

I don't agree with the argument that "driving with a manual transmission in the city is too hard"....Put down the cell phone and the cheeseburger and "just drive"! Performance oriented drivers DO NOT WANT/NEED a manual tranmission in a car. The GT is supposedly marketed toward th...

Re: Water injection they key to suppressing detonation (Sub-Zero)

Yes, this is very old school, but extremely effective in engines that used forced induction. Water injection was first used in airplanes (many had superchargers) back in WWII.I built my own water/alcohol injection system for my Stealth. Cost me less than $150 and it works great. This system allows m...

Re: Vibe Gas Mileage (VibeInTx)

Yes, Overdrive is any drive ratio that is less than 1:1. Such as 0.78 or something. Overdrive improves gas mileage. The only time you would want to "lock out" overdrive is if you were pulling a trailer or climing a long steep hill. That's it.Acceleration will not change, because the drive ...

Re: GPS & Moonroof not available together? (shibaman)

There are some excellent full color GPS units available these days for 1/3 the cost of the factory installed GPS. I agree that it would be nice to have a built in GPS unit, but not at the price they're charging. My advise would be to purchase the GPS seperately. I've got a $100 hand held unit that w...

I've got the ORIGINAL (Blue) GM card. Don't let a dealer tell you that you can't use the GM card points with the employee discount. That is not true. I puchased the car on last Thursday for the above terms. Just put 600 miles on it over the weekend. The "new" GM card is a POS What you said ...

How to purchase a new car....here is some great advise.

If you have't seen this site before, check it out. There are seven chapters of material here and it's a lot to read, but it's a must for anyone purchasing a new/used car from a dealership. Once you read all this you'll have a whole lotta confidence walking into a dealership and negotiating a price.h...
