2009 Vibe 1.8 5 Speed Questions

I just recently got a 2009 Vibe 1.8 5 Speed and have a few questions about it. When first starting it I once in a while get a grind that only lasts about a half a second to a second. I have read about the cam sprocket and a issue on the TSB. But it sounds more like a starter sticking to me. Thoughts...

Sorry to hear about the loss of your second Vibe, but glad to hear you're already searching for another one! Definitely keep us updated on your search ;). Also, if I'm not mistaken, the 2003-2005 (?) GTs were the only ones that had rear disc brakes. 1st gen owners please correct me if I'm wrong... ...

Re: debbob 2008 Vibe Base

Hi McGyver, Thank you for your response. It is our understanding that the 2008 and 2009' Vibes are the same car and that ours is called a 08/09 Vibe. Not sure that that it matters much... I misspoke when I wrote timing "belt", I should have written timing chain. We are very sure our probl...

Re: 2004 broken antenna base

Dear cthomasparr, apparently the rooftop aerial is subject to rust. It suddenly fell off my Vibe on Saturday! My impression is that if the base is still there, all I have to do is screw in a new mast. Is that correct or is there more to it? If it fell off it is likely the base is trash. Just did on...

Questions and what I did this weekend.

So I was busy working on the Vibes this weekend!!!! 2003 Black One - Replaced the starter as that died last night, installed a new headliner, installed a new hatch to it, installed a new radio, replaced the entire antenna assembly as it was busted. Discovered that the gas tank is leaking when filled...

Re: Entire Rear Hatch Removal First Gen

If I remember correctly. It is very easy to disconnect the wires by releasing the connectors behind the headliners on the driver side of the vehicle. Will be tackling it tomorrow so I will post what I did. It is just 4 bolts, 12mm Get the headliner to sag a little by removing the 2 push connectors ...

Re: Used Engine, New Engine or Get Another Used Vibe

I might be using the wrong term then...my understanding is that of the four pistons (cylinders?) only three are firing. So when I'm at a light, it idles pretty rough. But when I'm at speed I don't notice a thing. My mileage isn't as good as it used to be, but it's not a whole lot worse (I get about...

Re: Going for Vibe #3

I'm in Pennsylvania and the price difference between the two cars is about $3K. One has Fuzion tires and the other has Tiger Paws. Neither brand thrills me and I previously had bad experiences with Uniroyal (although that was many years ago). But I'll be sure to check tread wear too. (So far I've o...

MPG ---#1 Thing that I have done

USE ETHANOL FREE GAS - I have a place that sells it for like .10 more a gallon. Having worked in the auto industry for many years all this stuff does is ruin things, crappy MPG, hurts CATS, ect.

Entire Rear Hatch Removal First Gen

Looking on easiest and fastest way to remove the entire hatch assembly. Any tips or pictures would be great. Personally I would go for the 2006 Auto just based upon having far less miles. But it really is personal pref. What are they asking for the two? Tires good on both? What are of the country are you living in? My daily driver is my 03 Abyss with 161K on it auto with moon and tunes. Also the mono packa...

Re: What should I do with this vibe?

I've decided that I'm just going to use it for the original purpose I bought it and that was for parts to repair the GT that I bought.

I only paid 750 for it so I'll get the same out of it because it is inspected.

I definitely robbing the hitch off it though.

What should I do with this vibe?

So I bought this vibe for parts but don't want to part with it for some reason. Lol What I know about it. It's a 2004 with 231k, auto, has CEL for emissions codes(don't really care) , needs exhaust fixed at rear flange, and leak fixed on roof near windshield. And it smells like a ash tray. I was thi...

Good suggestion! Let me check the engine and these pulleys separately. A tip in checking individual locations for noise is to use a long screwdriver and put it on the component you are trying to listen to and ear on other end. Obviously watch out for hot things and moving parts. Sounds like a beari...

What is your average labor rate in your area? When I was living in NC it was $75ish a hour. Alldata books the job at 11.1 hrs, and 1.2 hrs additional if a auto trans. Used Vibes are cheap to come buy if you look and are willing to drive, one just got listed in my area a 2004 with 96k one owner for $...

Re: Used Engine, New Engine or Get Another Used Vibe

What area of the country are you in because that will have a lot to do with prices. I've been in parts and service all my life. And both engine quotes seem extremely high. A good junkyard one installed should only set you back 1500 to 2000. The other thing is, with another vibe you have no idea the ...

Re: Air bag Light

You can have Autozone, Advanced Auto, etc read your codes for free. Or, depending on the year, you can can grab a pen and paper for writing down codes, and a paperclip or equivalent wire and do it for free jumping the OBD ports and reading the flashes on the dash. Neither of these methods are quite...
