Re: Troy's 2005 Vibe GT

Great News! I've more or less decided to start using the Vibe for SCCA autox soon. Step one: Installing a decent seat! https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/2qrVAIji0soTvlCLG-NVc92iTy_AtitHQOb2vuEjeqEr6DJExdajJMaRD8tCFkdMuw8ITyp_VyXZaqqPPMQYRXOYt9Pps9ctVSq-1Awu1Fgn0Zjw70c4NMyWrUcIkcyNc5sCh7Q_2oHfliZwOBB...

Re: Troy's 2005 Vibe GT

How much did it cost you to bave your 03 ecu repinned? I have an 05 gt as well. Want to eliminate the secondary injection system. I believe it was $100 including shipping from Hawaii. Works great and beats spending $1000+ to get an AEM system or similar. What did you use for the bracket to hold the...

Re: Troy's 2005 Vibe GT

Update on the ETX18L battery plus 16 feet of extra 2 GA cable:

After sitting outside and not being driven for a few days, it started up fine this morning at -7 F. Cranking was slower than normal but that's always the case at these temperatures.

Re: We have LIFTOFF !

I have an 03 GT on the stock aluminum 16's. I can land in lift on every single shift. The 1st to 2nd is, of course, the trickiest but can be done with the proper combination of hand speed and rev matching. With a low inertia flywheel and a high revving motor, momentum is HUGE. If you can launch the...

Didn't one of the Lotus Elise/Exige models come with a supercharged 2ZZ-GE? That hardware should presumably be able to be adapted to the Vibe/Matrix/Corolla/Celica 2ZZ-equipped cars.

Re: 06 rotors and brake pads.

I used Centric premium rotors and powerstop z17 ceramic pads from Rock Auto, it was about $175 to do the whole car. They look good and are working well so far.

Centric 120.44114 front and 120.44115 rear
Power Stop 17923 front and 17823 rear

Re: Troy's 2005 Vibe GT

That's one clever idea with the battery relocation. I want to relocate my battery as well. The CCA rating does meet Vibe specs, but my only concern would be if it's enough. Especially in the harsh cold my car would inevitably experience. That said, being inside the car is without a doubt better tha...

Re: Troy's 2005 Vibe GT

Like the rear battery and sub modification. When I took the rear of the Vibe apart, was amazed how much unused room is behind the interior plastic wheel well covers. Looks like you sealed the MDF to the floor of the Vibe, use anything special? Waiting on the Power steering update to see how the Vib...

Re: Troy's 2005 Vibe GT

I also painted the gray plastic front grilles black a couple of weeks ago with plastidip just to try the stuff out. With holiday travel I've got 2000 miles on it and they still look perfect. That gray matches absolutely nothing on the exterior of the vehicle, the black looks much better: https://lh3...

Re: Good replacement

We have a 2014 Mazda 3 hatchback. It's extremely nice but it is tiny inside compared to the Vibe. There is nothing on the market like a 1st gen Vibe anymore. Everything is bigger and heavier yet has LESS space inside or is super tiny like the Fiesta/Sonic. The next best thing to another Vibe is prob...

Re: Troy's 2005 Vibe GT

That's cool, troyguitar! One suggestion and one question: I suggest stuffing some sound insulation under the panels in the trunk area. I will improve the sound clarity tremendously. One question about the battery: I never heard about this battery and therefore I looked it up. It is non-spillable be...

Troy's 2005 Vibe GT

Since I finished a major project this weekend I thought I'd finally start a thread here. I bought a stock '05 Vibe GT with leather and no sunroof or stereo upgrade last year and have been slowly working on it. I like this car a lot. My other car is a 2004 Z06 and I drive the Vibe basically all winte...

Re: Battery relocation

This is an old thread but I'm bumping it with some information. There is space to move the battery to the trunk without removing the spare or anything else if you get the right battery. I went with the ETX18L from East Penn Mfg. These batteries are sold under a ton of different brand names including...

bleh mine was sheared off too, thought I'd have an easy time getting the remaining bit out but right now I just have a slightly smaller hole from drilling through the remaining rusty bolt. For now I just safety wired it into place until I have time to deal with it properly. It's not a big deal but I...

Re: Static drop? any concerns?

Static drop is a general term used by kids these days to mean any non-height-adjustable suspension change that is lower than stock. Usually that means shorter aftermarket springs. The Vibe appears to have tons of room to go lower without any major ill effects besides reduced ground clearance, but I ...

Re: Advice for used Vibe or Matrix!

I just bought myself an 05 Vibe GT with leather (rare) and 116k miles for $6k. It is a fun little car and will be even more so with a few simple mods - but if you don't necessarily need the space of the Vibe/Matrix and are OK with spending a little more money I would get a 2007-2011 Civic Si or mayb...

Cool seat heater install, I will probably do something very similar but not until perhaps this Fall. I did the stereo install last night with no issues. They adjust down a little bit, but they only go from "(removed) I'm driving a schoolbus" to "Toyota Sienna Soccer Mom" height according to my very accurate height gauge! I'd really like it to go about 3" lower than the lowest position. Here's a decent exterior shot, still ne...

Re: 2005 GT Potential purchase - couple technical questions

I got it mainly as a cheap car that's still decently fun so mods will be limited. First order of business will be to put a new radio unit in with bluetooth, I actually bought one already at Best Buy tonight. Kenwood somethingorother $150, just need to figure out how to install it. Performance-wise I...

Re: 2005 GT Potential purchase - couple technical questions

Well I bought it. 2005 GT in bright red with leather and power options, but no sunroof or stereo or stabilitrak. I did not want the sunroof (just more weight up high and one more thing to break), but the stabilitrak would have been nice for snow. 116k miles for $6058 cash + tax, title, and whatnot =...

Re: 2005 GT Potential purchase - couple technical questions

Yep as far as I can tell leather seats (and stabilitrak) were only an option starting in 05, and the 2ZZ motor and drive by cable throttle only went through 06 so my search is for an 05-06 GT with leather, apparently with plans for an intake and a $1400 computer plus dyno tune to end up with the ult...

Thanks guys, appreciate the info. The Audi sold over the weekend so I'll be looking more seriously at replacements this week. I've really only found 1 Vibe GT with leather at a decent price so far though, is it a super rare option?

2005 GT Potential purchase - couple technical questions

Hey folks, just joined the forum as I've been looking into a 2003-2006 Matrix XRS or Vibe GT. So far I like the 05-06 Vibe GT best for looks and features (the leather seats are WAY better than the cloth IMO), but I am at a bit of a loss on a couple of minor details: 1: Is there a way to tell if a pa...
