2005 Rear Wiper Motor Rebuild

Has anyone had one apart? Mine runs very slowly in the winter, normal speed in the summer so I'm thinking a good cleaning and regreasing could help a lot.

Looking for someone who's done it before.

2005 Vibe Front Sway Bar Link Alternatives

Just priced the OEM links at $80 each. GM has two alternatives but they are both more expensive. Has anyone used aftermarket links?

Driver's air bag. Why no Recall?

I had my passenger air bag one done last year, no problems and it just occurred to me that I've never heard anything about driver's air bags. Anyone know if they came from another manufacturer or is it that Toyota doesn't really care about us drivers? (grin)

A year down the road and it still feels great. I stuffed as much silicone grease in the internals as I could.

Surge underload and knock sensor code fixed

2004 base Vibe, manual transmission, 210,000 km. I bought my Vibe about 2 1/2 years ago with 130,000 km and it's always had a surge or slight stumble under load, and an intermittent knock sensor code. I've put about 80,000 km on it since. The original 2004 battery died about a year ago and I was bro...

Has anyone else noticed that this procedure doesn't work anymore after the Air Bag Recall is done?

I loved having that silly chime gone. :(

Driver's window regulator loose. Manual. 2005 Vibe.

Howdy. There are about 156 hits when I search window regulator but I haven't found any that show what it looks like. My front windows on both sides are loose. They bind a bit going up and down, lots of slop in the crank mechanism. I had the inner door panel off once and there didn't seem to be any w...

Re: Any ideas on fixing these boo-boos?

Sooo, I'm slow to respond. Sue me. Lol. The rough textured parts can sometimes be relatively well repaired with heat. My interior panels were scratched all to hell when I bought my Vibe with 130,000km on it. I used one of those hand held torches that runs on butane, small flame comes out the end. Wa...

And after you're finished, wax the plastic a few times a year. It helps delay any yellowing.

Summary of normal rusty areas?

As in, is there one or is there any consensus on what is normal rust for a 2005 Vibe? Base model here. I got mine two years ago, finally got around to taking care of the outside, chasing down rust. So far I have found rust under the black front door sill plates, just from trapped salt I think, rust ...

Rear Hatch Lock

2005 base model Vibe. Finally decided to see about fixing my seized rear hatch lock. It's only been about a year but I like to keep on top of these things. Turned out to be a relatively simple but very time consuming repair. Ton's of corrosion, lots of scraping with a small screwdriver, knife, denta...

2005 Base Model 5 Speed Clutch Dust Cover?

I had my clutch replaced last winter and I just noticed that the flywheel and ring gear is visible from the rear underneath the car. I felt around the area and can't feel anywhere for a cover to mount to but it seems odd to have it exposed like that. Does anyone know if there is a cover there? Thanks

Re: Toyota dealers for Vibe parts

I used to work for a GM dealer and I can see why a Toyota dealer might have reluctance getting into Vibe parts. We used to sell the Tracker, which was a rebadged Suzuki Sidekick. They were almost identical but the Tracker was always a year behind the Suzuki and there were a number of small differenc...

Re: Poor Cold Shifts Manual 5 Speed

Well, couldn't find any posts about numerous errors in the manual for fluid, did a reverse kinda search and found the specs for the recommended fluid. Looks like a poorly worded manual recommendation to me. The owner's manual calls for, in Canada, Part Number 10953477 or GL-5 which I read as them be...

Re: Poor Cold Shifts Manual 5 Speed

I'm a big believer in synthetics. Been using it for about 15 years in everything I own. Cars, motorcycles, lawn tractors, lawnmowers, snow blowers, anything and everything. It's proved to me that it's definitely worthwhile. I haven't found any real proof that GL4 is better than GL5 in transmissions ...

Re: Poor Cold Shifts Manual 5 Speed

The research I did last night online, says that GL4 does not have the same lubrication qualities as GL5. The GL5 is better for extreme conditions. The downside of GL5 is that it's harder on brass synchro rings but that info seems to be a few years old and there is some confusion if that is still val...

The factory recommends synthetic GL5, I assume that's what's in there but it will be what's in there when it warms up. :-)

Poor Cold Shifts Manual 5 Speed

Greetings. I drive an '05 Base Vibe, 138,000 km. Live in Ontario, Canada. I bought it in November so have only driven it in cold weather and it shifts like a 50 year old truck. Clunks as you move the shifter, requires more effort than I think it should and I have to double clutch to get into first w...

They seldom wear out, they usually sieze up from a bit of rust or a lot of gunk. Try some WD-40 and then a high pressure car wash, followeb by more WD-40 and some engine oil.

150,000 is not a lot of mileage for a modern car. 300,000, if properly maintained is not at all unusual. Just in case it's deemed important by some, I'm older,57, a mechanic, former service manager and I've owned a number of high mileage vehicles. My last vehicle was a '97 Mazda Protege that went to...

Yep. :-) 2005 Vibe, base model. Just came back from Active Green & Ross in London and I'm now running steel 15" rims with 195/65R15 snows. The overall diameter is the same, or within a couple percent of, the original 205/55R16 tires. The rims are listed as an alternate in their catalogue an...
