WOW.... biggest automotive nightmare ive seen in like....EVER! Looks like they really screwed that swap up. Who the devil puts a 1ZZ in a Vibe GT, anyway? Someone who doesnt know jack!!! They probably figured, "Welp Cooter, go down to the yard and get that vibe motor we saw last week" &quo...
I just moved from Western New York to Colorado and towed a trailer that was soooooo overloaded the entire 1600 miles. The vibe performed flawlessly and even averaged 24MPG doing it! including interior cargo i was probably at 4000 LBS!!!! While I would not recommend this I had no choice... it was los...
I bought my 2003 GT with 100K miles onit for $3100 plus tax...$3500 total incl tax and Registration. That is STEALING IT....but you should be able to get one for under $5000 if you are patient and a good negotiator. If a smaller dealer has one on his lot for a while he will be willing to deal. Mine ...
Both me and "My girl" have Vibes... I of course have the 03 GT and TODAY she bought this 2009 Carbon Grey Metallic AWD! AND...get this... This is Both of our SECOND VIBE!!! She used to own an 03 AWD and I had an 04 awd.... so that makes 4 total! (I was "behind" the purchase of bo...
I used to have an '03 AWD and loved it! I had a rear bearing go and it made noise.... but my rear diff held up. Overall it was bulletproof! Im moving to Colorado shortly and part of me wishes my current Vibe was AWD! (Except now that Ive owned a 6-Speed 2ZZ-GE Vibe I could never go back). Too bad Po...
Wow...I was getting 25 mpg when I 1st got my GT and was pushing it hard... now that Ive mellowed on "lift" a little bit and am driving it more mellow im getting 30 avg
I disagree with this advise....for OBVIOUS reasons! I recently bought an '03 GT and LOVE IT! There are deals to be had out there and if you are patient and do your homework you can do similar to me: I bought this 2003 Vibe GT with just over 100K on it for $3100!!! The power (above 6Krpm) is ADDICTIV...
"Overdrive" is when the gear ratio is less than 1.0, so in your 5-speed Vibe 4th and 5th are both overdrive. Here are the ratios. 1st: 3.166 2nd: 1.904 3rd: 1.310 4th: 0.969 5th: 0.730 Final Drive: 3.941 Shes asking about Overdrive with a manual tranny.... with that in mind do you think s...
Uve heard plenty of horror stories from Celica guys? I DO worry about being in that zone as it is.... some pretty darn high RPM's to be playing around with.... yet I do it all the time. BUT... If these engines self destruct there after hitting 100K plus miles I will surely BACK OFF... as I cannot af...
In the past I ALWAYS preferred GM to Ford... by a LANDSLIDE... but in the past 5 yrs or so it seems like Ford is really getting their act together while GM is... asleep at the wheel! Pun INTENDED!
You dont sound like a broken record Ive never heard that b4... and I would except Vibe/Matrix run so long I have YET to see even ONE at any local boneyard!
So are there any self help groups like AA or NA for those us us who get addicted to... LIFT? :?: It all started out innocently enough:  I was driving along one day after purchasing my 2003 Vibe GT and was in a hurry... so I revved it up in second gear and when she hit 6000 rpm's the Lift engag...
My plan is to wait.... And see how reliable this car turns out to be / not be... and if it turns out to be a reliable rocket I will jump on a used one with a bout 100K miles on it in about 3 years....for a fraction of the price they are commanding now. Hmmmm.... in 3 yrs... a Focus ST for about $10K...
So this is my second Vibe...and BOTH have had problems with the Temp control cable breaking loose from its "Clip" that holds it snug behind the dash causing it to .... be non operational! What up with THAT! Try as I might, I cannot locate the clip that this cable goes into that holds it in...

Those numbers are surprisingly close! Probably due to the fact that you gotta get to 6K b4 Gen 1 GT kicks in! lol had they GEARED the GT correctly it would be MUCH faster! Its impossible to keep it in LIFT when grabbing gears! Even if I shift from 2nd at 8200 RPM it settles at about 5500 in 3rd and ...
I once hauled two Full Size John Deere garden tractors at once with a 5X8 trailer.... with my old 03 AWD.
That was about 1500 lbs plus trailer...close to 2K!
And....it was through some pretty hille terrain for about 80 miles!
Whew!
Handled it fine.
The Pontiac Vibe is one of the Best Cars made...period. I knew this almost a decade ago when I steered my GF into an '03 AWD. although we are no longer together we are still friends and She recently traded it in with 200K on it ...still running strong. Never let her down. Not once. I still knew it a...
Man I wish they kept the 2zz engine in the 2nd generation...cause theres no way I can give up my LIFT!!!!. but...when its time for a new car I'll be looking for what will by then be a very rare low mileage 1st gen GT!
I used to own an 03 AWD and mine did the EXACT SAME THING! Its basically bad design in the gearbox! At that speed the engine is at too low an RPM to comfortable keep the car in motion and the result is lugging. Im SURE Toyota/Pontiac engineered the box for economy at this speed and while it gets gre...
If it runs well doesnt burn oil and the rear end is holding up I'd hop on it...but of course I'd talk her down to a G! A G for an 03 AWD is nothing! Of course... if you can afford more I would DEFINITELY spend more and get into a lower mileage GT (my preference)... because with that high mileage its...
Im curious...how does the 2nd Gen GT stack up against the original Vibe GT? I see it has a tamer 2.4 if I am not mistaken... and would think it was...tamer.
plus they dropped the 6 speed manual in favor of a 5 speed?
I have a 1st Gen GT and dont mind buying Premium for it...she's a rocket!
And the Gearshift is extremely comfy. That was NOT the case in my old Jetta....I had to REACH for it at a downward angle and it was uncomfortable compared to the Vibe. This car though is much better.... ergonomically speaking!
