Re: 2006 Vibe Floor mats

Well, I'm interested in the fronts but not the rears, so that might make a good compliment to zbyers' offer!

My uncles both have vibes too; I could see if they need the hatch carpet.

Re: 2ZZ-GE Performance Intake Manifold

Aha, you've finally made an update! I've been busy lately and stopped checking after a while. Interesting, that's quite the design. Looks like it should be fairly easy to fabricate. One possibility I had thought about is to use your 3D printers at school to print a plastic mold for investment castin...

Re: 2ZZ-GE Performance Intake Manifold

arrowracer76,

I sent you another PM - I've got lots of gears grinding in my head with ideas for this! I definitely want to see this through.

Re: 2003 GT engine replacement

I do have a place to start for you at least, if you're not familiar - Monkey Wrench Racing. They have swap packages with and without transmissions for the 2zz into the Vibe. You might even be able to get some credit towards a new engine if your old block is still usable. Here's the link to their eng...

Re: 2003 GT engine replacement

475000 miles is awesome out of the 2zz. Did you have any major non-engine related work?

I'm at 196000 on my 2004 GT currently.

Re: 2ZZ-GE Performance Intake Manifold

This is looking pretty cool! Is that NX I see? How is the design coming along? Do you have any actual plans for manufacture? Any idea on method of manufacture - i.e. sand cast, investment cast, or fabricated? I may have some contacts (in Ontario even) to help put this in production, and could help w...

Re: Switching to synthetic oil???

my quip would be: "why switch at all?" Dino oil is very good these days; a lot better than when Mobil 1 first came out. I'd stick with regular oil and not worry about oil getting around the seals, or more importantly, Corolla engines (if you have one) pissing away money as it burns oil. I...

Re: engine surging

thats interesting stuff about the vtech, and the lift and stuff. i never knew i had that. i just bought the only used Vibe on the lot and it happened to be a GT. that being said, now that I know the clutches aren't designed to handle the engine i still dont know if i'll pull that out of the bag too...

Re: Why is it so hard to find an air filter

Old thread, I know, but why start a new one? Just got a new air filter tonight. I compared the STP SA9482 and Fram CA9482 at Autozone on my way home from work - and they're exactly the same filter (now, at least). Same plastic frame (even the gates and parting lines from the injection mold were exac...

Re: MWR Short shifter install and review

Mind answering another question of mine?

Does the MWR short shifter need the base bushings off of the stock shifter? I'm trying to figure if it's worth getting replacement base bushings or not.

Re: engine surging

This sounds like it could be a slipping clutch.

Does it still accelerate slowly fine, but when you step on it to accelerate faster, does it "break free" and rev higher without the acceleration to match?

Thanks again for a great fix!

Looks almost like new on mine now, though I suspect with a bit wider section of can it would fit perfectly.

Re: MWR Short shifter install and review

Great guide.

Question: Does the short shifter reduce the "shifting in a bucket of rocks" feel that the 6 speed tranny has? Switching to Redline MT-90 helped but it still feels unnecessarily clunky.

Re: Stock Pressure Plate Bolt Thread

The new clutch and flywheel are in; they drive great! The Exedy OE clutch grabs very well, though pedal feel is quite light. The lighter flywheel revs up and down noticeably faster, but it's not a huge difference. The car does feel lighter overall though, which is nice. My old clutch was so bad that...

Re: Stock Pressure Plate Bolt Thread

What's the weight diffrence between the flywheels? The F1 Racing chromoly flywheel is 10.67 lb according to my postal scale; Gripforce claims 10.6 lb. If only I had a way to measure moment of inertia... I'd expect a slight advantage for chromoly flywheels relative to their weight versus aluminum fl...

Re: Stock Pressure Plate Bolt Thread

I think I've found my answer - the stock bolts are in fact M8-1.25 x 14mm long and have lock washers: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/77065-2000-4runner-4cyl-auto-manual-transmision-swap-3.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The F1 Racing chromoly flywheel thread...

Stock Pressure Plate Bolt Thread

Hi there, I'm a long-time lurker; I love the forums here. The community is great, and I thought I'd finally jump in. I have had my 2004 Vibe GT for a little over a year, and a good 18,000 miles (170,000 miles on the OD). Anyway, the clutch was (typically) never very solid when I got the car - and af...
