rubbing/grinding from front wheel

Hi folks. 2003 Vibe is the car in question. I have a rubbing/whirring (grinding is a little too harsh of a term) sound coming from a front wheel, only when turning and braking. The frequency is once per tire rotation. I can hear it when coasting through a turn with no brakes applied, so I know it's ...

dash lights go out when headlights turned on

2003 Vibe. Just started happening last night. All 3 pods are illuminated as usual, but when headlights are turned on, illumination ceases (dials go dark, as well as the radio). Not all indicators are out; turn signals, cruise, high beams and others work, but the dials (speedometer, fuel gauge, tacho...

Re: retaining nut rear wiper motor - left or right handed?

The pic posted above is of a right handed thread. The only place on any car that you might encounter a left hand thread would be on the crankshaft, camshaft, or flywheel; and even then every maintenance manual would state in large font that it was left hand. Are you looking at the exposed threads? ...

Re: retaining nut rear wiper motor - left or right handed?

Any chance you have a pull-n-pick junkyard nearby? Or maybe a GM / Toyota dealer to look at a wiper motor. I haven't taken one off, but I can't imagine the thread isn't right hand! The thread that holds the wiper on was R.H., correct? I can't remember the last L.H. thread I encountered, oh yeah, pr...

Bump.

retaining nut rear wiper motor - left or right handed?

Hi folks. The rear wiper motor on my 2003 Vibe is not burned out, but is moving slowly/erratically. From reading other threads on this subject, I'm hoping I can just clean up corrosion on the shaft to get things moving freely again. Please see picture - is that retaining nut right handed or left han...

shimming a starter

I replaced the starter on my 2003 Vibe a couple weeks ago. All's good, except the new starter "whines" (that's the closest I can come to describing the noise in text) when it is used. I've read this usually means the starter needs to be shimmed. Has anybody on the board done that? Is there...

Re: need to replace the starter

In other threads, you said you were not getting any voltage to the starter, and that you replaced the starter relay. Can you feel the starter relay click when you turn the key? Any way to measure if you are getting voltage to the starter when you turn the key? In that thread with the pic of the sta...

need to replace the starter

Hi folks. So, I've read various threads on the board regarding replacement of the starter (2003 Vibe). I think I understand the procedure. One question - I need to remove electrical connectors at the fan assembly (both at the fan motor and a couple tie down points) and at the starter. Are there any ...

Re: 2003 Vibe won't start - where is the starter relay?

So, I've found the starter relay...next question: Just how obvious is the click? I have my finger on the relay when I turn the key, and i don't think I feel anything. That being said, I can hear a click from something in the fuse block...is there any other relay that would click when I turn the key?...

2003 Vibe won't start - where is the starter relay?

I don't have any voltage at the main electrical connector at the starter (under the rubber dust boot) when the key is turned, so I'm thinking the problem is the starter relay. It seems as though the relay is not in the fuse block under the hood or the fuse block under the dash. I do see a relay that...

I found the power connection at the starter, under the rubber boot. I don't have power there when the key is turned, so I'm thinking it's the starter relay. Would you folks agree? Re: STARTER REPLACEMENT Tips........

One other thing - I cannot find the starter relay. In the fuse block under the hood, there is an EFI relay, which I can hear/feel click when the key is turned, but I don't see anything labeled "ST" or "Starter".

Thanks.

Re: STARTER REPLACEMENT Tips........

I want to check for power at the starter to see if it's a relay problem...at which point can this be done?

I only see one electrical connector to the starter, on the bottom (only visible from under the car). Is that the place to check? If so, how do I remove that electrical connector?

Thanks.

Re: unable to remove rotor (SOLVED)

FYI everybody - using the bolt/nut through the holes that the calipers bolt to in order to press the rotor off the hub worked like a charm. It was off in less than 5 minutes. Much more effective than bashing it with a hammer.

Re: unable to remove rotor

I haven't busted a wheel bearing yet. Those things handle some pretty serious shocks hitting potholes and stuff. Think about the amount of force applied when the entire weight of a car slams a wheel into a decent-sized pothole. You're going to have a heck of a time generating even that with your ar...

I've read you can't get too aggressive without damaging wheel bearings, so I avoided smashing it with a big hammer.

Re: unable to remove rotor

Some disks have threaded holes where a bolts can be inserted and tightened as a way to lift the rotor away from the hub. Like the smaller holes in this diagram. http://extranet.soleniuminc.com/CentricParts/part_images/12044115.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; That's a go...

unable to remove rotor (SOLVED)

Hi folks. Replaced pads and rotors on my '03 Vibe over the weekend. Well, I replaced one rotor, because I could get the other one off. Seems to be rusted to the hub. I sprayed WD-40 everywhere, used heat (propane torch) and banged on it with a rubber mallet, all to no avail. Is there anything else I...

source for 2003 grille trim

Hi folks.

On a 2003 Vibe, there are 2 pieces (left and right) of black, cross-hatched plastic at the bottom of the grille. I need to replace one of these pieces.

Can anybody recommend a vendor for this part? Thanks.

Re: liquid leaking from dash (UPDATE)

Well, the source of the fluid (I'm 95% sure it's water) is not the hose mentioned above. That hose is in place and secured; what's more, the water was dripping from the dash, not coming from the floor where that hose is. More info - when using the A/C this week, the leak has reoccurred, but the wate...

liquid leaking from dash

Hi folks.

Just hoping somebody can help me diagnose this problem - when the A/C is on, a clear liquid (possibly water; doesn't seem to have any particular odor) is leaking from below the glove box. This is on a 2003 Vibe.

Likely cause? Potential cost to fix? Thanks!

Re: ticking noise from dash

Have you pressed the recirculate air button? Most of the time that will stop the noise if it is a broken gear. It is a very common problem on the cars. There was a new thread on it just yesterday. The gear in the AC recirculate solenoid breaks and causes the motor to keep trying to operate the door...

ticking noise from dash

I have a 2003 Vibe. I've recently started hearing a ticking noise coming from behind the dash. It occurs when the key is placed in the "on" position. The engine does not need to be running. It is irregular. ie: tick....tick....tick.................tick..tick...................tick............
