The oil companies are not helping us here. According to Castrol's website, the GTX claims GM 6094M, but the Castrol Syntec Blend does not. Mobil's website does mention this standard. Mobil 1 is an excellent oil (and undoubtedly it meets the standard), but since it not "identified" as meeti...

How important is for you the GM standard 6094M?

The 2004 Vibe's owner manual (page 5-19) says: "Notice: Use only engine oil identified as meeting GM Standard GM6094M and showing the American Petroleum Institute Certified for Gasoline Engine starburst symbol. Failure to use the recommended oil can result in engine damage not covered by your w...

According to the owner's manual, I should use only oil meeting the GM6094M standard. I have a case of Citgo Superguard 5W-30 (use for the other car), that meets API SL and ILSAC GF3. Neither the label nor the Citgo website say anything about Superguard meeting the GM standard. I would expect any 5W-...

I paid a visit today to the dealer, and asked them to listen to the engine. They said that the engine sounded fine. The noise that I am hearing is, according to them, the injectors ticking (due to the engine design, the injectors are positioned high under the engine cover, and that's why they are no...

My base Vibe has now 800 miles, and I've experienced the following:1. Center console problems;2. Difficulties when closing the rear liftgate;3. Off-center steering wheel, and all four wheels out of alignment.I love my Vibe, and I am confident that it will be a reliable car, but the initial quality i...

VSV noise?

My Vibe (2004, base, automatic) is making a ticking noise at low idle (700-800 rpm), or when it gets close to a stop (<1000 rpm, after releasing the gas pedal). The noise goes away as soon as I press the gas again. I wonder if it's the same as what some of you refer as "VSV noise". When th...

I do not recommend

I have purchased an extended warranty for my car from an independent company (in my view, comparable with the two that you mentioned). They were not very cooperative when I had a transmission breakdown, but in the end approved my claim. If you are interested in my experience, send me an e-mail and I...
