Re: Totaled Vibe - head-on

Ouch! If you dont mind me asking, what were the details of the accident? Like impact speeds, other vehicles, angle of impact. Just want to know how safe it is in certain scenarios. I know it's rated high in safety, but just curious in different situations. My brother was in a left turn lane and was...

2003-2008 Vibe exhaust manifold compatibility to Corolla?

Hi
Does anyone know if the 2003-2008 vibe(1ZZFE) exhaust manifold is the same as the 2003-2008 corolla.
I'm looking for a used one as mine is warped.

Re: Piston slap

Mine burns absolutely no oil at 160k, just slaps until warmed up when the temp is below 45 deg.

This is what is happening

Re: DIY - Automatic Tranny Fluid Change

There is good reason to drop the oil pan. When you remove the oil pan you can then "read" the health of the unit. Metal chunks on the magnet or a lot of "gold" dust in the bottom of the pan are clues to trouble on the horizon. Don't just clean the pan without reading what the pa...

In the trannies with just a screen, wouldn't it be better to do a backyard flush via the transmission lines instead of dropping the pan?

Re: Front Axle(s) Replacement

Make sure the mounting surface between the wheel and hub is clean - remove any rust/corrosion with a wire wheel/drill.
Ditto for the pilot hub and hole in the wheel.
Rust jacking of the mounting surface can cause vibrations

I don't think you will find a Vibe with 100k for $5500 unless it is fair/poor cosmetically. Thats the price and miles I had in mind and all the "nice" ones are going for 7500 - and thats private owner. I had to compromise after looking in craigslist for almost a year and ended up getting a...

seat belt from passenger side can be used on driver side

In case anyone needs a seat belt in the future and cannot find the belt for the side they want or are skeptical about using a drivers seat belt from a wreck. The belt can be unpinned and used on either side mechanism.

Re: Manual or Automatic Transmission. Which do you prefer? (Brandort3)

Brandort3,There is no evidence the problem with the 5 speed has been fixed.I can find failures in 2006 and up.I don't see any specifics of a design change.I talked to MonkeyWrench racing and was told there is no fix and all 5 speeds will fail prematurely, failing quicker with more time spent in 5th ...

I prefer the automatic for the base Vibe. The manual has bearing problems and is not durable for the long run.

Re: My reflections after 150,00 miles on the 2003 base VIBE 1.8 engine (burrpenick)

There was a tsb related to oil consumption that increased oil capacity to 4.4 quarts - this lowered piston ring temperatures. Also make sure you cooling system is clean an run a ratio of at least 50% water. Water is better at absorbing heat than glycol - this will help draw heat away from the cylind...
