also keep in mind that this is a proven and reliable engine in our vibes. it's a toyota, the corolla based engine is like grandma's apple pie. will go forever until the wheels fall off. depending on HOW MUCH the extended warranty was, then it may be worth it for peace of mind. if you paid more than $1K for it, then you got jipped. unless it's up to 100K miles, then imho, not worth it. i got one on my tundra only because i paid $600 for it, which was dealer cost. the finance manager was a friend and so i paid nothing more than dealer cost for gap ins, ext warranty, and dealer add ons like undercoating, etc. in fact for my chrome step rails, i only paid $300 installed where as they were costing $600 installed.

You can either pay for major repairs now or later. That is all the extended warranty is. You pay for the repair before it happens. Most of the time the cost of repair is less than the cost of the warranty. I sold extended warranties for several years at a major electronics store, and I don't think I would ever buy one. I'll take my chances. Plus, do you have any idea how much damage you'd have to have to get a repair bill over a thousand dollars? But, that's just my opinion. To each his own as they say.

Funny part it, I hit 36000 EXACTLY as I pulled into the lot of the dealer to scope out the 05's.

yup, I told you it would get to 97 degrees in NJ Ragingfish. oh, you meant the mileage Funny thing, my Vibe crossed the 36,000 threashold as I was just crossing the twin bridges into NJ a few weeks ago enroute to Connecticut.

Mine's at 33500 right now. Before the warranty is up I have to get my window regulator fixed (kinda rattles) and get some seat repair done on some stitching that is kinda coming loose. I do have an extended warranty tho.

If the problem is covered under warranty, you get it fixed for free. If your warranty is up, the TSB still might help a little by giving the dealer guidance on common problems, hopefully cutting down the time it takes them to figure out the problem, but you'd have to pay for the repairs.

Some really suck though, want only after market parts used, the cheap crap... I would not want that on my car. glad I turned down the warranty... don't want that hassle.

i bought the vibe because it was a toyota. proven reliable engine and i didn't worry about an extended warranty. they wanted to sell me one for $1400 so the finance guy could make an easy $600! hell no!i'll take my chances... and they are good. now if it were an actual GM vehicle, then yes, i'd get the warranty. but i wouldn't plan on keeping it for more than the factory warranty period. best to get rid of the car at about 30K miles. before the warrnty expires so the new owner will get a little of the benefit and you got it for the majority.

I'm not a dealer, but I can verify what joatmon says. The TSB is just a recommended fix for problems that are frequently reported. A problem identified in a TSB may or may not be covered under warranty.

My grandma's apple pies didn't last very long, completely used up within hours of being made. Hope my Vibe engine lasts longer than that. ---I bet she meant 100K km, since they use that fancy metric system up there in the frozen north. 100K km, that would be 100 megameters? Is megameters Mm? Would be funny to get a new car every 100 km, like one constant test drive. I'd use two cars/day. Long trips would suck. About every hour or so you'd have to stop and move all your stuff to the new car. I bet the aftermarket parts industry would go bankrupt, who would bother to mod their car if they were only going to have it for 100 km?

heya Carrie, our Vibes have a 5 year 100,000km powertrain warranty did you know?

I am very happy that I was able to convince Penninsula Pontiac to give me a 6yr/60k warranty before I drove it off the lot

This evening, I reached the same "milestone." Out with the factory warranty, now the GM extended warranty takes over. Which is good that I'm still covered, since I've discovered a couple more issues to have addressed soon.

Neither one of you guys is so daring as to take your mileage pictures while in motion...that's no fun. I took my 99 miles pictures at 40 mph.

hmm.... i'll have to do some digging on pics. i scare people when i take pics of my odometer or speedometer readings while driving. edit: found one taken right at 20K miles. a bit blurry, but you get the idea. looks like i was going about 60+ or so... ?

Yep, he was 100,000+ last time I saw a post from him recently. I guess the 36,000 I've done in ~20 months isn't too bad.
