Hey i had a question for all of you VIBE GT drivers...What kind of fuel do you run in your Vibe GT, is it Regular unldeaded (87), Plus (89) or do you run premium (91+)Also what does the manual say the fuel requirement is, and do you notice a difference running different levels of fuel.~Jason

premium - 91try a search on "octane" to see some previous discussions on this topic, as well as http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=8440Not sure what the owners manual says, but you can download a softcopy of the owner's manual for free. See http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=1010GT will lose power on less gas, extended use of regular may lead to early engine wear, or worse

Basically...I've been sticking to Amoco/BP 93 octane..which sadly is up to 1.77 here in the state of GA.

Here in NJ, I use either Mobil Super+ of Exxon Supreme (both 91 octane) for about $1.73 per gallon. I use Mobil and Exxon only because they are the closest stations and they contribute to Upromise. I get about 28 MPG on each tank (sometimes I can get 30). A fill up costs me anywhere between $15 to $17 depending on low my tank is (I usually try to fill up after I've gone about 250/275 miles).

Stick to the higher octanes. I have noticed a difference between the mid-grade and the high-octane. Sluggish lift points it seemed to me.

I usually use 76's 93 octane. Sometimes I get 93 from BP/Amoco or Sunoco. Most Sunoco's around here even have 94 octane, though I don't really notice a difference between 93 and 94. One Sunoco station near me even has 110 octane racing fuel at the pump (I think it is leaded, though, so I won't be using that). From what I've read, it is important for GT owners to use 91 or higher octane due to the high revs and high compression, especially if you are revving into the "lift" range. The timing of the spark and burn of the fuel mix must be very precise when rpm's and compression are that high. Lower octane fuel may ignite prematurely (with the compression like a diesel engine) because it is less stabile than the higher octane fuel when compressed. Pre-ignition could cause some very serious engine damage to our cars. After reading about all that, I decided that I better not use lower octane fuel again.

I either run 92 or 93 octane depending on what station I get it from. I may start going to BP/Amoco or Shell. For the most part I fill up every Tuesday. There is a station near me on the way to work that runs all three grades the same price as regular unleaded every Tuesday. You just have to be sure to get there around 6:30 a.m. or you will never get in there.

Triton: Sounds like a Texaco... up in Jersey, i'd -always- fill up at the local texaco station, and always time it for that "Super Tuesday", when premium was the same price as silver (usually 5-6 cents off)

I've heard that the useage of regular can cause detonation in the engine if used to much or as fast as one tank through it.

Hopefully the engine computer and knock sensor stuff will keep too much damage from a tank or two of regular, recurring use can't be good for the engine, and performance will suffer too. If you're going to pay for the extra kick of power the GT givs you when it hits lift, you shouldn't try to save money with cheap gas.Kid, welcome to genvibe!

Hi...I know most of you GT owners hate having to pay the additional cost of Premium fuel but there is a bright side to the price when it goes up. Let me explain...In most places, in the US at least, there is generally a 10 cent difference between grades... sometimes less but usually 10 between reg and mid and 10 between mid and prem. Let's say reg was $1.00 per gallon. If premium was $.20 more, you're paying 20% more, over the regular grade... As the price goes up, the percentage you pay over regular becomes less.... so reg @ $2.00 and prem @ $2.20, prem is only 10% more, not 20% as it was @ $1.20. I know, I'm thinking too much about it but it doesn't seem as bad when you really think about it...(I'll shut up now.)Dave

It makes me feel worse, David!North of the 49th, it's usually at least ten cents a litre (a tad over 1/4 gallon) more for Premium!
