Ka-poof!...Oh no!...and then...woosh woosh..

So I turned the corner onto Pearblossom hwy and mashed the throttle and boosted quickly toward 3rd gear with jolting torque, and lots of zoom...but I was a litttle sloppy and hit the rev limiter/fuel cut...at 6500 rpm...then my motor went..kapoof..".Oh no!." and then woosh woosh...!!!!..I just coasted w/ my foot off the throttle as I saw my cars life flash before my eyes in a mere few seconds!I thought I blew my motor!....but as I coasted...i reved my motor a little...it sounded ok!!!....I put it into gear...and then kept driving. All seemed well...I reved past 3k , and heard "woosh woosh"., but had no turbo power..and then I knew and drove home. The intercooler pipe bleww of my copressor housing!..When I popped the hood, I spotted it easilly...I hadn't checck the hose clamps ever, and now that i have 12k miles on this kit, I realized that I should have.....So, since the turbo was blowing freely into the air , I started to play with the throttle, to see how hard the air actually blows....Oh my gosh!...It is any wonder that engines dont blow up anyway...turbos are real copressors , and with a lot of cfm!....Ilooked around at all the leaves on my driveway..and thought about blowing then all off by hooking up the shop-vac hose to my turbo. ..Instead , I rehooked up my pipe , and tightened the hose clamp and drove to rite-aid to buy some celebration Ice cream...All was well!

I can only imagine the empty gut deep feeling of dread you must have felt when you first heard the sounds. Imagine all the "I told you so's" you would have gotten if your turbo trashed the engine. Very glad it was a simple fix, and you're back to fast!

Yeah , I dont like that tone of the "I told you so's" ..I have heard alot of the same tone pre-turbo pre-curser..."I dont know about that, you're gunna blah , blah blah.!"...And so ,it is true that if I ever blow my motor, that I will rebuild my motor w/ stronger rods, and pistons...then I will turn the boost up even more!...Its a pride thing...but the longer I go , the more confidence I gain...I have 12k miles and nearly one year....Matrix-t has over 30k miles on his matrix with the same set up..which makes the longevity thing even better![ Quote, originally posted by joatmon »I can only imagine the empty gut deep feeling of dread you must have felt when you first heard the sounds. wonder why the fuel cut cause the pipe to blow off. did you backfire? i heard off the happening with boost increases or spikes creeps. seems a little odd what do you think nova?

I'm glad it turned out okay. That would've given me a good scar as well.
