I am a senior in college and considering jobs. I am looking at one in the DC area. Anybody live near dc and have comments on what it is like. both positive and negative

I'm a college student and right now I am at work in Pentagon City or Arlington. The Pentagon is right across the street and I can see the Washington monument off in the distance. I would say the two biggest negatives are cost of living and traffic. Traffic totally sucks here in northern VA and DC! I drive half way to work and take the metro bus the other half. Leaving for work at 6:45am (before the big rush), it takes about 25 minutes to go about 15 miles to the bus stop. Then the bus takes about 30 minutes to go about 25 miles. Coming home is a different story. It takes around 1 hr 45 min to get home. Similar situation with my school. It is 27 miles away, but takes anywhere from 40-70 minutes. For cost of living, I'm lucky and still living at home with parents since I'm in college, but once I graduate and move out, it will be pretty expensive if I stay in the area. Positives: lots of companies to work for in the area, plus government jobs, beach not too far (Ocean City or VA Beach 2-3hrs), mountains not too far, I guess the weather gives you a mix of everything (+ or -), most places to go to are close, but then again traffic getting to them sucks, DC for entertainment can be good.

Traffic can be pretty miserable, and it is probably a lot more expensice than Strasburg. Also, compared to Strasburg, unless you've got a militant Amish cult, there's much more chance of disruption of normality in Dc, from politics, terrorism, whatever. The public transportation system is reasonably effective around the city. There's also a great variety of environments depending on where the job is and where you live. Are you looking at the District or one of the outlying areas? Depending on your career plans there may be many or few alternate job opportunities if you move to the area and find that the initial job isn't working out. The District has no voting member of Congress, the DC license plates have the protest message "No taxation without representation" on them, Clinton put them on the presidential limo, bush took them off. If you're a republican in the district, probably not worth voting cause it won't matter.There's always an incredible amount of things to do, always something going on. Kinda slow on the Vibe meet scene though, maybe because there's so much else.Where ever you end up, it will be what you make of it. Good luck, it's tough to decide what to do.

first of all i am not amish, i wouldnt get to have a vibe then (yes i know they can have cars when they are younger but they usually pick 80's firebirds and camaros) I am looking at langly area. not actually living in DC propre but probably the bethesda area or something like that

I wasn't saying that you were amish, but your profile says strasburg, which is near lancaster, which is around that amish country somewhere. There's an amish center near me, and they tend to be such steadfast moral folk and don't stir things up much, make for a serene, pastoral feeling to an area. twas a joke.

There are two optional plates available for a one time fee, either a "Treasure the chesapeake" one that is pale blue with a heron, or "Our farms our future" which has a lot of red and yellow and a farm scene. Not sure which would look best on a shadow vibe, I went with the basic one for my satellite vibe.

i would deffinatly go with the scuba plate. It;s like the normal black and white one with a lil scuba flag on the side
