2010 Vibe 1.8 :Need Photo Of Back of Engine Where Timing Chain Tensioner Is !

Hi all,

I have a 2010 Vibe, 1.8L, 2ZR engine (says on label). I removed the the old Timing Chain Tensioner...and was about to install the new one.

But I'm hoping some can provide a photo, because I need to see the back of the engine (in particular the wiring harness attachment location near the tensioner). I do not know where a metal part on the wiring harness goes!

If you look at the below photo, I have the Timing Chain Tensioner removed already. You can also see the metal part on the wiring harness (I've drawn arrow to it). Where does this attach to? I can't find an a place. I looks like it would almost share the lower bolt used for the timing chain tensioner...but I doubt that would be the case and I don't remember it like this when I removed it.

Thanks very much for reading this and for your help.

I don't own the 1.8L engine BUT I do own the 3-volume set of manuals. Hope this helps:

tpollauf , thank you so much for this great help!

I can see exactly what I was looking for, the image shows the connector I was referring to. And from the drawing, it DOES connect to the lower Timing Chain Tensioner bolt. I really didn't expect that to be the case! I will make sure to re-attach it correctly.

May I ask if you might have some insight into a prominent "ticking" noise I'm getting now when I start the car? My installing a new chain tensioner was part of a bigger job in which I opened the valve cover, took out the camshaft and replaced the VVT Controller. I followed the steps exactly. Once finished, I put the valve cover back on, bolted it down & attached all the wiring.

But when I start it now, I get a very loud ticking. I'm searching the forum for threads to read that might help. But would you happen to have any insights? I'm planning on re-opening the cover and re-examining my steps/what I did to see if I see anything.

Thanks again tpollauf! Your kindness in helping is really appreciated.

Glad I was able to help ;) . Seeing how My Vibes have the 2.4L engine, I wouldn't be of much help on your current issue.

You might be able to tell if it's valve noise by the frequency. If it's half engine RPM, it's a valve. DId you check valve clearances when you reassembled the cam? Did you move any of the lifters?

Hi andrewclaus! Thank you for taking the time to post some help my friend. It seemed like the valve clearances were okay. And I don't think I moved any lifters/rockers.

But guess what? The ticking is now gone, and I didn't need to open it back up. What i did was simply replace the oil. I let it run a little afterwards and there was still a ticking sound. But when I came back an hour or so later, I started it up again....and No ticking sound! So I expect the new oil had not yet gotten to lubricate all the areas it should have.

Thank you again very much andrewclaus!
