we,re on a second vibe.
also we have a 2005 corolla.
the inner , drivers side boot is busted on the corolla.
My very good mechanic had the car on jack stands. he could not get leverage enough on the pry bar to get the c/v end knuckle to back out of the tranny.
he said maybe at a shop , up on a rack it may be possible.
any of you guys ever had trouble getting the shaft out?

is it perhaps possible to cut the shaft to make more room and then replace it with a whole new shaft???

thanks for any advice.

According to the service manual, a slide hammer with a hook attachment should be used: https://www.amazon.com/OTC-6541-Slide-H ... B000RGLX9E

try rotating the axle. the circlip in the trans needs to be more-or-less centered for alignment and it'll fall right out. if it's an OEM axle, you should also have a decent lip that you can put a pry bar against and use a 5lbs sledge to beat it out.

I brought it to the most highly recommended tranny shop in this area.
they said it was going to be no problem.
they installed a Chinese c/v , but said they never have one return.

thanks again to all .

the part and labor was about $270.

my original idea was to reboot the existing oem c/v. but the shop strongly advised against that idea.
unfortunately i my have a bad new c/v. from the get-go i could hear a humming noise starting around 30 mph. at 65 to 70 it is very pronounced.
i rotated tires and balanced the front and the noise is still there.
i ordered a set of walmart "westlake " for $35. each. arriving soon. we,ll see then.

on our ,05 vibe we,re running b.f.goodrich from sam,s club.
they,re built with alot of rubber, but the compromise is a ride with some noise and rides rough, not smooth.
