When you step on the gas pedal, you use more air, more fuel, and more spark.

Have you checked/changed the air filter? Has the fuel system ever been serviced? Is the alternator/battery original?

If it were transmission, the RPMs would likely increase not bog down.

Another potential cause could be seized brake calipers- check the brake pads for excessive wear.

Is the check engine light on? Clogged injectors?

Plugged exhaust system, bad catalytic converter. All kinds of things can cause power loss. With out more information from testing, it's only guessing.

If the air can't get out, it can't come in. Check engine vacuum at idle. Google about it>

Wow I would like to see that old air filter. I've never seen one so bad that it causes drivability problems.
