Transmission problem at high Rpm

Hey all,
This is my first post on here. I have a 2005 Vibe gt with 103,000 miles. Recently I have noticed a problem with shifting at higher rpms, especially from first to second gear. If I shift at normal rpms the car has no problems but doesn't want to go into second once I am hitting the variable valve. I'm assuming when I try to shift quickly the clutch is not disengaging completely causing it to grind. Any ideas where to start looking for a fix. I'm considering flushing the system and putting new fluid in to see if that helps. Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

If you're lucky, a switch to a quality GL4 fluid will solve the problem.... if not then you have a synchro starting to go.

Certainly change the fluid first. It is a cheap thing to try, and it worked when my Mustang transmission was hard to shift. Hopefully it will work much easier.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. If it is a syncro then it acting different then the one in my 94 saab years ago. That car would actually pop out of gear if I didn't keep force on it. As far as the fluid goes I'm hoping that it is so old that it has just broken down. It is just brake fluid if I remember correctly. The clutch and brake fluid reservoir are all one unit.

This doesn't sound like a clutch problem or master/slave cylinder or line pressure problem.

Transmission fluid. Change it.

Use this: Redline 75W90 GL4
