09/10 turn signal stalk removal

Sorry for a double post, I asked this in the fog light discussion in the "great how to index", but it's kind of buried away. I am going to add fogs to my 09 base, and would like to use the existing wiring. I see alot of discussion about how to get to the relay location. But I can't find much info on how to change the headlight switch. Does the steering wheel have to be removed? Or just the cowliing around the column.
Thanks for any help you can throw my way,
Dean

As I recall, you just need to pull the cowling off.

Based on my experience dismantle 25% of the dash for my steering wheel audio control project.
your fog light should be prewired from the factory. So is kind of plug and play, just instal the stalk and the relay and confirm the fuse are installed.

You need to do the 3 major steps to install the fog light.

1. Installing and removing the stalk.
1.1 Remove Steering Wheel
1.12 Remove Steering Wheel Air Bag (disconnect battery 15minutes before doing that)
1.13 Ensure the steering wheel is center!.Remove 19mm nut that secures the steering wheel
1.14 label "mark" your steering shaft spine center position
1.15 using pulley puller "slot type" from harbour freight/princess auto and back the steering wheel out using those two m10 holes at the 9 o clock and 3 oclock position
1.16 remove clock spring with steering angle sensor, remember don't break those plastic taps
1.17 use vice grip/needle nose to free up the clamp for the turn signal stalk.

2. Installing the relay
Follow this beautiful video and remember to follow this person's force apply location for proper removal of the shifter and radio face plate without damage clips and become rattle trap.

3. Install the fog light assembly.
You could jack up the car, remove splash shields and connect them to your fog light plugs.

Here is what I posted in the other thread:

Disconnect battery
pop the top and bottom covers off
Remove a couple of screws from behind which attach to the air bag
Pull the air bag (unplug the wires)
Make a scribe mark so the steering wheel in correct placement
Remove bolt or nut
I wiggled the steering wheel from side to side and it came off. (I bought a puller but I didn't end up even using it.)

This is what you will see when the steering wheel is off:

Thanks for the help guys. Ive decided if I'm going to pull the steering wheel, I'm gonna do the audio mod too. So the ebay steering wheel, turn/wiper stalks, and clock spring all show shipped. So I will let you know how I make out with it all. I am not going to use the OEM HU, an after market with the audio controls connected to an axxess adapter.

Hey peacock, do you remember if the lens you got for your fog lights are plastic or glass? are they cold to touch with the back of your hand?
The TYC show from my previous link is using DOT certified glass lens that is a OEM equivalent for accident replacement part. If the lens is plastic is for a recreational application.

Your Red wire translation as follow.
Use Google Chrome

Leads to connect to the switch to stalk connector: red goes to the relay (which is not - is not established), white goes to the module DRL (Running Lights) by PTF should be included only when the dipped, but if white is not used, and the red wire sit on the ground (via the button) - then when you want. :) Look at the arrows.
