I just read and completed the steps on using the trip button and clicking the safety belt to change the safety belt beep duration. If you hold the trip for 12 seconds and click the belt it comes up "b-on" and "b-off" and you use the trip meter to toggle. I'm wondering if maybe there are other configurations that can be changed such as making the odometer display the mph like on a ford focus. The speedometer is the only bad thing about the console because the numbers are separated by 20 mph and a dot. I find myself slipping from 25 to 30 really easy and 5 mph in the nearby school zone is a big deal. I'm about a $100 fine away from taking the dash apart and scratching in a line at 25 haha. Thanks a bunch in advance.

Umm...no, you cannot display your mph on the odometer of the Vibe like the Focus can. I have no problem maintaining the speed limit, especially in school zones. I call it...paying attention!! LOL!

Hey strriker, the gauge panel is actually REALLY easy to pop open.

You could get you a thin red pinstripe and cut about 1/2 inch of it ans use that as a line where 25mph would be.

Now that I think of it, I may do something similar.

I have one of the ebay OBDII bluetooth adapters and run the Torque app on my phone to get an exact MPH readout, along with the MPG instant and average. Works pretty well for me. There are also several apps with a speedometer included that use the GPS to calculate the speed. Something to consider if you have a smart phone.

Yep, scangauge or scangaugeE will work. Even corrects for tire size. Just pace with a gps and adjust.

Word of thumb, if the school zone is 20, go 15, not 24. After all, kids are quick, and, dumb, like deer. I know, I have a bunch.

A ScanGauge of either type is the way to go... I have the E, fantastic little gizmo.

I totally agree We have the ScangaugeII in both our Vibe GT's

Buy a old GPS cheap that accurately shows your speed. My brother bought a new one with lifetime maps as it didn't cost much more than updating the map on his old one from Jan. 2009. I got the hand-me down. I don't really use it for directions.

That's a good tip. I have started leaving my GPS on on long trips even if I don't have a route planned. I wish you could just update the speeds and not the maps.

A good cheaper alternative to the scangauge is the Ultragauge. It is cheaper then Scangauge (It cost me about $78($69 +7.95) ) and has a bigger screen then SGII which is good in the sunlight and also good in the night
It is a company based in the USA and I got my unit in 3 days

I wanted an OBDII gauge for my XB because the thing has only a dummy light and not a temp gauge(they removed that feature for a clock in the 2011 and 2012 Scion XB) and saw $150 for the SGII to be excessive for what I was looking for

Here are some pics of the Ultragauge in action in my XB. It has the capability to display 7 pages of 8 gauges. I only have the battery and temp gauges set up because that is all i was looking for.

As it is just for this car, I have it running down to the OBDII connector through the gap in the steering wheel and the dash


It has a side mounted wire to connect to the OBDII connector so as to not be bumped by the drivers legs

The unit retains its memory of your settings and shuts off when the ignition is turned off and the door is open so as to not drain your battery.

Not bad for the price Just checked out this gadget and as an owner of the ScanGaugeII I have some pros/cons about this. Pros: better price, bigger/more displays, has timing features and more combination packages. Cons: Only one fixed color of display (blue), all buttons are on the rear of the device and are recessed. This is a huge drawback for anyone wanting to install this permanently in their dash somewhere. Also the cord only plugs into the left side. ScanGaugeII has left & rear ports to choose from. Overall I'd say it is a better bargain for your $$$. I'll find out in a few days, because I just ordered one Show up at the Erie meet next weekend and we can compare the two

Got my Ultra-Gauge in the mail today Will let a few other GenVibers try it out on their Vibes on the way to Erie. We can compare it against the ScanGaugeII and see how it measures up.
