2008 front brakes "click"

My front brakes make a clicking sound when I first back up and apply the brakes. Then again when I first apply the brakes when going forward. Almost sounds like there is too much play between the pad strong-back and the caliper supports (not sure what to call them). Anyone else have this happen? The dealer says there's nothing wrong... even after he heard it too.

re-torque your wheels. it's the rotor moving forward and backward. there's play between the studs and the rotor holes they go through, which makes it click forward or backward. put the torque up around 90 or so. if already there, go higher. this way the wheel holds the rotor. it just stops the clocking for the most part, and it's not dangerous, just annoying.

While I agree with your diagnosis, I don't agree with torquing the lug nuts to 90.

55 is a little weak... i'm used to puttin our cars up around 130 or so on the bigger cars. we put all the smaller cars at around 90 so the wheel actually stays on and grabs the rotors.

I want to say correct torque specs for our wheels is something like 79 ft/lbs.I usually torque to 85 ft/lbs.As for the click, get use to it. mine does it too, I remember a thread about this a long time ago, I thought it was the pads shifting in the caliper from fwd to rev, vise versa... I didn't think it was the rotor, but I could be wrong.

check your brake pads also they may be worn down too far and the clips are hitting your rotor

Thank you to everyone who responded. I will check the torque on the lugs. Now I'm smacking myself for not thinking of that before. Again... THANK YOU, Everyone!
