steering wheel replace

just bought an 03 auto with 109k. the steering wheel is in bad shape with the rubber breaking down causing a bad rubber smell in the car. how easy is it to replace the wheel? any other thougths. thanks.

Looks straight forward enough. I attached a PDF of steering column overhaul, pulling the wheel is only the first 5 steps.I haven't done it on these cars, but on some others, I have been able to just yank it off after removing the nut, and on other others I have needed to use a puller. The procedure shows using a puller.

It's fairly easy to do if you have a wheel puller. I have a spare steering wheel with the cruise control stalk on it if you are interested.
