This is my first post to the GenVibe Forums. I bought a 2010 Vibe three weeks ago, and the lack of a cargo cover was a surprise. Following the lead of a couple of other members, I made my own. The 2010 (and probably other years) have mounts around the top of the cargo area for the folding factory cargo cover. I removed these and put two adjustable shower curtain rods ($5.99 each at Menards) across the area, using the holes left. I made a two piece cover from eighth inch pegboard and covered it with carpet remnant. I got enough carpet to also cover the cargo floor and seat backs. Total cost was $12 for the rods, $5 for the pegboard and $10 for the carpet. I made the pattern for the cover halves with cardboard and transferred that to the pegboard, cut it out with a jig saw and glued the carpet to them with Elmers white glue. The floor and seat back carpet is held in place with Velcro strips for easy removal if required. The covers and shower curtain rods can all be removed in about 30 seconds. Start to finish took about 3 hours.

Looks good! Not a fan of the green though. Anyone know when they went from metal to plastic? Gen change I assume?

nice job. good idea with the curtain rods but i too am not a fan of the green lol was there any other colors or you wanted green? i would have went with black =P

It was either green or a bright maroon-red. The only gray remnant looked more like plastic grass than carpet. Green was the lesser of three evils.

I used heavy duty entry carpet with rubber backing bought at walmart, I had to buy 2 to cover everything. I'm carrying lots of boxed heavy stuff (computers, servers...) so at first I used velcro like you did but then I glued everything to make it permanent because the velcro just wouldn't stand.Here's a pic to give you an idea on my '05...

You should have cut out where the slide tracks are so you could still use the anchor tie downs. Unless they got rid of those on the 09+I used electircal conduit for my supports in the cargo cover. The thing holds 50 lbs.

Welcome! The idea and finished product of your cargo cover is great, but I do agree with everyone else (the green is kinda weird).

OK, guys, the green is gone. Well, at least it's covered up. I found a gray 3x5 rug on sale. I just laid the two peg board pieces (with the green left on them) over the rug and cut out a new cover. You're right. I had become used to the green (or I just learned to ignore it) but the gray is an great improvement. Still have less than $30 invested.

You have a grease pit in your garage? Lucky! There's a guy in our neighborhood with a car lift in his garage where he stores his 'baby' and he parks another car under it. I've always wanted to stop and ask him how he closes his garage door with the car jacked up there.... Anyways, I think it would be cool to have a grease pit in my garage.

Very sweet Vulcan! Definitely something I would want to have in a garage! Do you change your own oil there? If so, do you prop the used oil pan up close to the car so it doesn't splash?

The first time I changed oil in the pit, I put a piece of hose on a funnel and put the other end in my oil drain pan. I managed to get oil on my shirt, pants and shoes. A real mess. I was telling my brother that I guess I'll have to buy one of those adjustable drain pans like service stations have (or used to). He just looked at me and said, "Why don't you just put one of the boards back in right under the drain hole, set your drain pan on it, and let it drain in that?" DUH!!!!! Sometimes the solution is so simple that we can't see it.

Good Job on this....i've been thinking of doing something similar, i can't believe the dealership wants $90 for the flimsy piece of fabric they're calling a cargo cover. Just one question for you....is there anything keeping the pegboard in place or does it just rest on the rods?

They don't move around and they don't rattle, probably because they have carpeting on both sides and they are up against the back window and the back of the seat. As stated, since I took the pictures, I have found a piece of gray carpet which I just toss over the original green.
