http://www.insidebayarea.com/d...92933Quote »NEWARK — Two East Bay residents were arrested early this morning after a high-speed chase that started in Newark ended with a crash in Hayward.A 21-year-old Hayward man was arrested on suspicion of a vehicle code violation and a parole violation, while his female passenger, also 21, was arrested on suspicion of an unrelated drug charge, Newark police Lt. Tom Milner said.No one was hurt in the crash, which ended with the suspect's vehicle striking a utility box and a fire hydrant. The chase started 12:10 a.m. near Dairy Avenue and Noel Street in Newark when an officer tried to stop a 2008 Pontiac Vibe for vehicle code violations, including speeding, Milner said. But the driver failed to stop and eventually got onto Interstate 880 and headed north, the lieutenant said. The officer chased the vehicle, at times reaching speeds up to 80 and 90 mph, up I-880 to Industrial Parkway in Hayward, where the driver of the Pontiac continued to flee. The officer and suspect vehicle then circled the area on city streets, and ended up on Tennyson Street, where an officer from another agency used a spike strip to deflate one of the Pontiac's tires, Milner said. The driver then tried to flee on foot, but was eventually arrested, the lieutenant said.I know it was one of you! ;-) This actually isn't far from me. The Vibe is built here in Fremont, and Newark is right across the freeway from Fremont.

Yeah, but even 120 isn't good enough to outrun a V8 with a Police Interceptor package. You'd have to outdrive the cop in city maneuvering. Running flat out on an interstate is just a horsepower show and I know my I4 ain't got it. And of course they all know where you're gonna be so there are those spike strips waiting. Now a Kawasaki with the same HP rating would do it..... I'm too old to run now but I know my Ninja could do it.

looks like the story had a minor updatehttp://www.insidebayarea.com/a...92933Quote »The driver, Robert Luis Velazquez, 24, of Hayward, faces charges stemming from the crash, while 21-year-old Renee Lira, of Fremont, could face unrelated drug charges, said Lt. Tom Milner of the Newark Police Department.sometimes it's hard to search the members list, but neither of them appear to be members,
