Any problems with the old non2009 AWD system? Is it viscous-coupled or electronic Haldex?Do you have to change all 4 tires if you get a flat to keep tread thickness the same?Which Vibe years have an AWD option?Thank you in advance.

So that the tires do not move from left side to right side or vis-versa. If a flat is had You do not need to replace all 4 tires. I would replace maybe 2, but that would depend on the difference in tread amount between the tires. If its only a couple of 32nds off I wouldnt worry about it if it is several 32nds off then I would replace in pairs. The AWD were produced for '03, '04. '05 and '06. They returned in '09.There are 2 reasons given for the hiadeous. 1. Emissions standards were changing and the AWD version would not comply. 2. Sales.I hope this answeres your questions.

I guess I assumed the 2009 models were also going to be the same viscous-coupling AWD system but is this not the case?

I would keep all 4 the same size. If off too much the tire pressure light would kick on.

What about 2009 model year with presumptive nonVC electronic Haldex system, need to change just 2 tires? What does manual say for pre 2007 and for 2009?

IIRC, it uses the antilock brake sensors to measure rotation speed. If one tire starts to loose air, it will rotate faster than the others due to decreased diameter. A single tire of slightly less diameter due to wear would probably be detected as being low on air due to faster rotation.
