What oil filter do you use?

I am about to do my first oil change. I have always used Purolator(96% multipass effic) or WalMart(Champion) filters (99% multipass effic). I will be using Mobil 1 5w30 oil. When compared to others, I did notice the Purolator had smaller input holes on the base. What filters do the folks here use? thanks in advance...

I just bought a Walmart filter for $2.00 and a jug of Mobil 1 for $20.00 in Ogdensburg, NY. This equals $26.00 Can. The same two items would have cost me $45.00 Can. here at Canadian Tire.

I use K&N, with the Mobil 7500 mile half-synthetic oil.

My Wal-Mart here has Mobil1 4.4L jugs for $24.78 canadian -- I'm planning on stocking up a few :->I use the Toyota Denso filters - cheap, only $6.95 - and they filter as well as Mobil1 or Purolators. If you're using the Purolator - go for the Gold ones - they flow better with the same filtration or better.

Altus said, the Pure-Gold filters? I don't think I have seen them? I used the Premium Plus in the past. I bought the "pure-one" for another car. But it filtered too well. The oil pressure on my gauge read significantly lower at start up. So PureOne I stay away from. Atlus, Maybe that's the gold? Thanks guys...

K&N oil filter and AmsOil 10k mile oil. Heard a lot of bad things of Fram oil filters.

I have also heard negatives about fram. Plus have notice strange things with some of the vehicles I had, when frams were install. I won't go into that. Their filter media is good but the amount of it is not as much as others. Also their bypass valves are not known for quality...nuff said.

I use the Purolator One filter. After reading a lot of info on filters, the conclusion was that the Purolator One filters are excellent and it only cost around $2.50 at Advance Auto Parts.

Pontiac is GM's original sports car division. Wish these Vibes had complete(volt & oil pr.) gauges. On my last car... That's how I knew I had a bad PureOne filter. Also other problems showed on the oil gauge before it was terminal.

Always use AC for my GM vehicles and they are proven very good filters. With any car under warratny I always use the manf type filter i.e. AC or Mopar. Besides what I mentioned about AC filters I use the original equipment type just in case the engine has issues. The dealer can never blame my filter for some reason and decline a repair. Even in a lease vehicle.

It is against Federal law to require a vehicle owner to use ONLY OEM parts which require routine replacement. Any dealer that refuses to honor a warranty repair because of non-use of an OEM RRP (routine replacement part) can be closed down. AC Delco buys their filters from someone else anyway.

Still under warranty, it is a chance I rather not take since I change my oil on my own... Maybe it is easier to do this because I change it on my own I can by whatever filter I need rather than go to an aftermarket place. AC makes their own filters to the best of my knowledge but if they do buy them from someone else it does not matter because they are installed on engines from the plant and designed for the engine.

I used a Mobil1 the first change and Wix the last one. I think I'm going to stick with Wix - I've read good things about them, and they're half the price of Mobil1 and K&N.A lot depends what is readily available to you... I can buy Wix at an Ace Hardware about 3 miles from my house, but have to drive over 30 miles to get Mobil1/K&N (which makes the cost go up even more!).

A lot of guys over at BOB IS THE OIL GUY website use the white Purolator One's, which is what I use now. For the money, they claim they're about the best filter you can buy. Pep Boy's often has them on sale. Also, the Pep Boys PRO LINE filers and Auto Zone's TOTAL GRIP filters are made by Purolator and they're supposed to be good filters. Both are about $2.50 regular price. I used to use FRAM's but hearing lots of negative stuff about them.

Despite all the bad rap about Fram filters on the net, I have used Frams for all my vehicles (including motorcycles) for as long as I can remember (20+ years). This is mainly due to thier low cost and wide availablity, not that I have some preference. I have personally never had a problem with the filters exploding or other such reported issues. These types of reports usually go like this: "I have a freind who has a friend who heard about some guy racing his highly modified car when the Fram filter on his car exploded and caused him to crash". Maybe these are legit reports, maybe not. I have also had reasons to tear apart the engines on several cars that I ran Frams on. These were unrelated to oil or oil filters and included blown head gaskets and the like. I always found the inside of the engine extremely clean and virtually no wear on the cylinder bores or crank journals or cam journals. I typically blend my own oil using 50% synthetic and 50% regular. I use the same brand and viscosity for both. I change oil every 3 to 4K miles. Occasionally I put in some Risollene or other oil detergent. This works for me, but I certainly don't have any scientic proof one way or the other. I suspect that under normal use, even the worst, cheapest oil filter will be perfectly fine. Here are some links to a couple of oil filter studies, one relates to motorcycle filters, but is informative anyway.http://minimopar.net/oilfilterstudy.htm ... hanks,Pete

I use Valvoline and the most expensive oil filter that the parts place has, a cheap filter tends to have less fliter media.

Castrol Syntec and PureONE. I like how people say they used AC Delco because that's what GM uses on their vehicles. People need to remember that the Vibe is basically 100% Toyota except for the CD Player which explains why mine is failing. I wouldn't have bought the vehicle if it didn't have a Toyota engine.

PureOne w/Mobil 1 (pre-Katrina).I do have a Denso on my Vibe right now, but as soon as I use up my stash of Toyota filters, I'm going to Purolator. It's not because the Denso is bad (it's actually quite good from what I read at BITOG), but Advanced Auto and Autozone run sales on Pure One's fairly regularly (I just bought four for $12). As for the AC Delco filter: I still don't understand why someone would go to their GM dealer to buy that thing. It's a rebadged Denso and it's ~$5 at your local Toyota dealer!

I use FRAM I think part 4967. This is the only brand of oil filter that I found for my Vibe and anyway this is the filter that the Opel dealer used last time. Here the Opel dealer is also giving service to Pontiac cars. Toyota has also a dealer here and I will check what brand of oil filter they are using. So far the car is fine and I am changing oil and oil filter in intervals of 6000 miles.

I change my AMSoil oil & filter @ 10kmi anyway. SDF's replacement, the EAO line, is supposed to outperform everything else out there, and carries a 25k mile recommended change interval. I'm going to pick up a couple of these in the next few months, and push my oil & filter change intervals to 15k. link: https://www.amsoil.com/storefront/eao.aspx

Once I researched it and saw that it was pretty much a Toyota everything, I bought it.

If ya'll are really interested in the skinny on oil filters, stop over at http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/ and check what they say about your oil filter... and oil for that matter... Much info over at BITOG, almost to much....
