Disabling DRL - HELP!

This evening I tried adding a switch to disable my DRLs as shown here:
http://dalenet.com/matrixvibe/Basically, one cuts the red/white wire at Pin 12 in the DRL module, wires a switch to the two cut leads and adds a ground wire for the switch (if using a lighted switch as in the example).I disconnected the battery, cut the wire, re-connected the battery and tested to ensure I cut the right one (I did), then finished the rest of the connections. When I reconnected the battery and tested again:1) No DRL/auto headlights regardless of switch position.2) No instrument cluster lights except for Oil, CEL, Brake.3) No A/C (nor back light for A/C controls).4) Key beep is constant (doesn't have the "five beep" option when in ignition position but engine-off)The radio works. The horns work. Parking lights and regular headlights work, but not high-beams.I have no idea where to go next. I checked most of the fuses under the hood, but not under the dash. Could I have blown that many at once?I'm off to bed, but hope someone has some suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you blew AM2 or AM1 under the dash.

Figured I blew something, but didn't know one fuse controlled so much. This morning, found that the power windows don't work, but the power locks do. Got a CEL all the way to work (obviously). Cruise control light works, but not cruise control.Does any of this additional info. help narrow down the fuse likely to have been blown?I wish I knew how this could've happened; all the work was done with the battery disconnected.

Quote, originally posted by ragingfish »Sounds like you blew AM2 or AM1 under the dash.Checked several fuses during lunch: AM1, AM2, Gauge, ECU-1G are all okay. I was really hoping it was the Gauge fuse, based on what it covers. Now I'm gonna have to check all the harnesses into the fuse box and make sure they're secure. I got another offline suggestion to pull the DRL module and look at the pins to make sure none are bent or pushed into the box.ARGH! It's getting hot outside and me with no AC!!!!

I guess I didn't check hard enough, because it was the Gauge fuse (10A, under the dash). I got out the ohmmeter and checked every friggin' fuse until I found one without continuity. So, I replaced it, turned on the ignition, flipped the DRL switch and POP -- blew the next fuse. Hmmm...checked my wiring again. Guess what? The wiring was wrong! AND, this was the same setup that was shown at
http://dalenet.com/matrixvibe/In the picture below, the red/white wire at pin 12 in the DRL connector is split and each lead is then connected to the switch. The labels in the picture are incorrect as to how they connect to the switch, however.I don't have the energy to draw a schematic, but let me assure you, this is how the leads are to be connected:1) Ground wire to any ground (if you have a 12v lighted switch).2) Load to the wire coming from the DRL connector.3) Power to the wire running up into the dash. This is all moot is you are using an unlit switch.

I have a howto up on my blog for non-destructively disabling the DRL of my 2003 Matrix and also adding a switch to "re-enable" it.Lots of pictures, all 800x600, and steps for the process. Here's the link.Let me know if anyone has any questions! Feel free to leave a comment here and on the blog!
