XML/RSS for active topics

Nick --The XML/RSS feed option for threads is awesome. Is there any way this can be extended to work with the "active topics" feature?I use the "live bookmark" feature in Firefox to keep on top of the current GM Inside News topics. It's very handy:I just am not sure if it's something that can be enabled/disabled, or has to actually be designed in by ZF.

I sent in a request to ZF - I'll post with updates when I receive them.Edit: Upon some snooping around, I see that http://forums.genvibe.com/zerorss will show you something similar to what you're looking for, but it only updates its feed if brand new topics are created. This isn't like the Active Topics page, which would be more useful I believe. I'll wait to hear back from ZF.

Yeah, I noticed that, I was wondering why it was taking so long to update then I realized it was only going by new topics. Thanks for the followup Nick, hopefully they decide to do it.

I agree -- active topics would be a very useful RSS feed. Might save me some reloads...heh.For some reason I've never really been able to make one work right though.

It is a news reader that connects to websites that have RSS/XML available. For example, I have CNN, Fark, and GenVibe on mine so far. It updates at the interval I request and it pulls down the headlines of news stories so I can read them without going to the actual website. I recommend SharpReader, it's free too!

Update:ZF will have this feature implemented into their next release of the forum software. I'm working with them to see when this may be and if we still qualify for the upgrade.

http://www.sharpreader.com It's free and I think it's better than other free ones.

I used an RSS reader on genvibe when the feature was added in the last upgrade, but I don't bother anymore. Never did see how it was better than just visiting the forums directly. Maybe RSS active topics would change that, but so far I don't see the benefit of RSS.I usually just hit the active topics page to see what's being discussed and the active users page to see whos on line. zeroforum's RSS feed doesn't support either of those right now, and will probably never be able to let you know when you get an IM.

Yeah, it is a little iffy on GenVibe, but it is really useful for news sites.

UpdateThe folks over at RelyNet (ZF) said this feature should be available in one of their near future releases (within the next 2 months). Once it is available, we will schedule a time with them to upgrade the Forums to that version with this new feature. Stay tuned.
