A Dumb ?

Last night, my Dad and I made a Wendy's run. All went well until we got home. Long story short, the stupid cup-holder thingy they gave us, broke. Lemonade spilled all over the passenger seat. My dumb question: If it soaked down far enough, could the lemonade have hurt the sensor for the "stewardess light?" I soaked up what I could with an old shop towel, but it was still pretty wet. I put my backpack there this morning, and the light blinked at me, so I'm guessing no. Any thoughts??

You can only hope, that light is annoying.

Its only annoying if you don't wear a seatbelt. I've never had anything heavy enough other than a person to set it off.

I usually carry a laptop bag on the passenger seat, and it always sets off the passenger seat belt light. I just disconnected the light, since I am the only one who drives the car, and when i'm driving the car won't move until everyone is belted in. if putting weight on the seat made the light come on, and removing the weight makes the light go off, then it sounds like it's working ok. did the lemonade stain the seat much?

It doesn't look too bad. I took a wet towel with Dial soap on it and scrubbed. So far so good.

Lemonade might not show up unless you are in bright sunlight. Grease stains on the other hand are VERY noticable. And I had a bag of groceries on the front seat and the light would flash on and off in a weird sequence because the groceries were bouncing up and down and rocking back and fourth. That was even more noticable than when it just flashes, I can usually tune that out pretty well.

The electrical for the sensor is on the bottom of the seat. It would take a LOT to soak down that far...I'm pretty sure you're fine...might not hurt to get some steam cleaning done down the road at some point!

Definitely a long way to go before the liquid hits it. I'm not sure what type of material the sensor in our cars is made out of, but... The type of sensors used for passenger air bag suppresion on some GM stuff looks like they wouldn't be hurt too bad by a little spill.http://www.gmtechlink.com/imag...tory7So yeah, I don't see it hurting anything...

interesting--- so just what does that sensor do? if you eat to much at wendys or macdonalds the airbags go at full force due to the supersize combo in your belly? no for real, what are the specs??????? i know there are warning that unless your 12 , your not to be in the front seat. anyone know the answer?

it detects a person in the passenger seat by their weight and then it causes the "passenger seatbelt" light to start blinking

On some vehicles with 'smart' air bags, it'll also prevent the passenger side airbag from going in an accident if nobody is in the seat.
